stocking finish help.

Post by bmoehler »

Help please! I just finished cross stitching a stocking for my niece. But I do not know how to put it together. Can anyone give me some help. Especially on how to sew the seam on the top of the stocking. I am so confused.

thank you so much.

 Hello and welcome to the forum from South Carolina! Your question is right on time. The thread right after yours, A Tutorial on Finishing a Christmas Stocking, should help you. I hope that you will post a picture of the stocking you have made. We love pictures and at this time of year there is a lot of Christmas stitching going on!

I can't help you because I have never stitched a Christmas stocking but we have many who have. You could do a Search on "Christmas Stocking" or "Finishing a Christmas stocking" (without the quotes) on the forum or do a web search where I'm sure many responses will show up.
Someone on the forum, who has done this, is likely to respond and give you the help you are looking for.

I've always done mine on a machine, but doing it by hand would involve the same steps. Once the stocking is put together (lining in, backing on, etc.), I just fold the outside and the lining of the stocking in (so the fabric is between the layers and the top of the cuff is even inside and out), and whip stitch it closed. Does that make sense?
