I was browsing some WIPs on a Russian cross stitch forum (can only look at the pictures since I don't understand Russian) and saw the following Q-snap style frames. I like Q-Snaps and was hoping to get a stand since I can't stitch for long before my hands get tired of holding the frame.
Anyone know where one might find these for sale, or would it be possible to make them? On the Golden Kite forum I read a post where someone was commenting that you could go to a hardware shop and buy PVC piping to build Q-Snap frames, wondering if this might be an option to make this style of frame, especially the one in the first two pictures. Although maybe not exactly like the first type, I'm not sure how the fabric is attached to the frame, so maybe a combination of the two.
I've seen some amazing things built with PVC (mainly parrot play stands) and that was the first thing I thought of when I saw the photos you posted. I can't see how the first two are held onto the frame, but I'm guessing the sticky strips sold for scroll frames would do the trick.
If you go in with measurements most hardware stores with cut the pipe to your specifications.
I don't quite understand how you would get in to... and out of... the stand in the top photo. Do you construct it around yourself? Sit down then pull your legs through? I'm confused by that one
I like the look of these. £29.99 +P&P isn't too bad.

I have got the lapstand of the R&R frame. Altho I do also not see how I woul put my legs between, under it...
I have it as a table stand and I love it. I haven't tried it on my lap on the sofa as that's not really convenient with cats around.

I think that the top 2 are probaly home built. I have looked and looked for a stand to hold my Q-sanps and nothing is being built at this time in the states so I have been experimenting with my own designs the last picture looks like the UK version of Q-snaps.

Why is it that when you find something that is just what you have been looking for that it isn't for sale? Guess I will have to see if hubby can make it for me?

It looks a lot like a Doodler Frame. That is what I use and can not stitch on anything else after getting it. I love that I have 2 hands free and that I don't have to support the frame and get such even tension on all sides. I have nothing to do with this company but just love their product.
I know this is an OLD thread, but I came across it googling for 'qsnap lap frame' and I have to say.. woah, brilliant! I've got some odds and ends of PVC piping and lots of connectors at home from a yarn winder I built several years ago that I no longer use, I'll have to sort through them and see if I can't rig up something to hold my Qsnaps, and maybe even my millenium frame!
I want to try to combine the idea of a PVC lap stand with the way Needle Needs makes the arms for their millenium frame. I'll have to adapt it more though since my qsnaps are pretty small - I have a 6" and an 8" frame since I use them for ornaments and the such. I've got some ideas that I'll have to sit down with a sketch book and brainstorm a bit and see what I come up with before heading to home depot and wandering around a bit to see what all is available in the way of fittings and fixtures that will work together.
Thought I reply to this old topic because I think it's hilarious! Imagine that you sit on the sofa with your legs through it and you must go to the toilet of something or the phone rings. I see myself lying on the floor forgetting that I was strangled in this thing
But seriously I think the table stand is way too high for comfortable stitching. Flipping your design is not possible so you have to flip this entire huge machine (ish) thing.

I tried building something similar to the frame in the pictures. It wasn't as refined, but yeah.. flipping was impossible, and I kept getting tangled up in it. And it kept falling apart on me too. Of course, that could have been fixed with a bit of glue in the joints, but I was still working on tweaking the design, so I wasn't ready to glue anything just yet.
