Greetings from sunny SoCal~

Post by Kisaki »

Hi, everyone!

As part of a New Year's resolution, I'm trying to get back into the stitchy way of things ... I was an avid stitcher in my teens and all throughout college, really dove into the deep end of the pool. From little ornament fobs to huge band samplers, from hardanger cutwork to crazy confetti Teresa Wentzlers, I tried it all. Spent a good chunk of my part-time wages accumulating a decent stash of floss and fabric.

Then I graduated, and started working full time. Next thing I know, it's three jobs later, the stash is still in boxes from two moves ago, and I haven't touched a needle in almost 10 years. Ain't that just the way it always goes?!

I'm hoping to take 2015 and rediscover my love for stitching -- I've started to unpack my old stash, and am hoping to dust off some of those old WIPs (assuming they're salvageable!). The stitching BBs I used to frequent appear to be rather defunct, so I was quite happy to find this forum. Nice to meet you all, and hope to see you around!

Hi from Queensland Australia. The only time a WIP is unsalvageable is if the mice have chewed it to pieces.
If your tastes have changed, which sometimes happens then you could always put the WIP up for trade or adoption.
Welcome back to the world of threads and charts.

Hello from Colorado (formerly from Orange County, CA) and welcome to the forum. You've come to the right place to get back into stitching and rediscovering the love for your old WIP's. This is a rather enabling group, so don't be surprised if your stash begins to grow, despite the WIP's on hand.

Welcome back to the world of threads and charts.
Hello to Queensland, and thank you for the welcome!! :D No mice here, thankfully... *knocks on wood* I'm actually more concerned that pieces of a WIP will have gone missing -- I've already come across a couple of cases (stitching but no chart/kit, or vice versa). I'm hoping everything just got jumbled together and that things start turning up as I dig deeper. Fingers crossed!

Thank you, and greetings to South Carolina! One of my closest friends is originally from Spartanburg. :) I'm definitely enjoying what I've read of the forum so far -- once I get my feet back under me, I'll see about posting an SAL thread with photos.

Hello, former neighbor -- thanks for the welcome! I've always been somewhat weak to enabling, so I have no doubt that what you say is true ... although my stash is already fairly sizable, so hopefully it doesn't grow TOO quickly!

Welcome from central California!

I'm like you - back to needlework relatively recently after learning it when I was a kid.. I spent my inbetween years knitting and spinning, and I'm throughly hooked once again! No doubt you will be too soon enough! If nothing we'll enable you around here.. we seem to be good at that sort of thing!

Greetings to Italy, and thank you for the welcome! It does indeed appear to be a wonderful corner of the Internet.

Hello and thank you, West of Scotland! :D Uh-oh, my "incoming expenses" alert seems to be going off ... ah, well, there are worse things I could be spending my money on. And after almost 10 years away from stitching, I think I'm entitled.

Hi, northern neighbor, and thanks for the welcome! Glad to meet a kindred spirit -- I didn't do crafty things at all during my hiatus, unfortunately, so my senses are definitely enjoying unpacking all of my old stitching stuff. So many lovely colors, soft fabrics, shiny silks and metallics and beads ... my inner magpie is in heaven. I've already set aside some smalls and ornament kits to help me dip my toe in the water again, but I don't think it's going to be difficult at all to get back into this hobby!

Greetings, North Wales -- thanks for the welcome, and I hope the weather isn't being too unkind to you! :( I haven't been around the forum very long, only lurked on and off for a few months before finally taking the plunge and posting yesterday, but from everything I've seen, it is indeed quite lovely. :D

No crafty things at all??? I would end up having to be locked away if I didn't do atleast some crafty stuff regularly. I kid you not, I get all twitchy if I don't craft/create atleast a few times a week. It's better than therapy! In fact I ended up at cross stitch because I was burned out on knitting and put it down for a while but needed something fiber related to do and this seemed like a good match.

Thank you, and hello from a fellow hot-and-dry denizen! Sorting my stash is going swimmingly -- I've just about got the loose fabrics and threads sorted, now to finish organizing mis-matched WIP bits ... I think I'm going to have to re-order a few charts and threads, but I haven't come across any irreplaceable losses so far, thankfully. :)

Nope, not a whit, alas -- I was working two jobs during most of that span, so I just never really had the time ... and when I did have time, I just couldn't get up the energy, especially once I'd moved for the first time and everything was packed away. :( I'll definitely agree that there's something very soothing and therapeutic about the needle arts in general, though -- something about their rhythmic nature is almost hypnotic.
