Sprains from Stitching?

Post by Little_Rat »

I was rushing to finish a hardanger piece and long story short, due to various factors, I had to hold everything in an awkward position and my fingers did most of the work, as opposed to my whole arm. I woke up with my index finger hurting. The pain eventually goes away but it comes back every morning. Does anyone have any suspicions what is up or any suggestions for the future? Can you "throw out" a finger?
I know most forums don't allow medical advice but I'm wondering if anyone has had similar experience.
Thanks!

Sounds like you have RSI (repetitive strain injury)
Not nice! Rest and anti inflammatory tablets should help.

Poor you! :bandaid:

I am happy to stand corrected if I'm wrong though!

Thanks for the information. Luckily, I will be very busy the next two weeks, so I can leave my sewing unattended (And busy for a good reason. I'm visiting my parents and then going on a vacation in New York City with my husband).

Could be RSI. Rest is the best thing and I also try and lay flat about 15 minutes to straighten my back and neck. I would check with your doctor if it doesn't get better soon.

When doing a fair bit of stitching I too get pain in the end knuckle of my index finger. Suggests to me that I need to cut back on the daily rate. Over the last couple of years I have developed a small lump on the knuckle too, and that's the bit that hurts most. It also hurts when I get gout elsewhere (a Y Chromosome defect inherited from my dad that I could happily do without).

Regards,

Richard.
