Hello, I'm Maria from Moscow. I'm a newbie here on this forum (actually it took me a couple of month to get courage to register ).
I started cross stitching about ten years ago, when some friends presented me with a gobelain kit. From then I stitched off and on until a couple of years ago I discovered that I can make my own patterns. Designing patterns and adapting pictures for cross stitching is sooo interesting!
I am also a great fan of Japanese art of temari.
I look forward to meeting and making friends with craft-loving people!
Hello Maria and welcome to the forum from South Carolina!! I'm so glad you found the courage to join us. We are mostly a pretty tame group of cross stitchers except when we get very enthusiastic about the different projects that members are working on! We love to encourage each other and learn from each other. We have some designers and several people who create awesome patterns from photos. I hope that you will post pictures of your projects. We love pictures. Looking forward to getting to know you!

A big welcome from the West of Scotland! Many years ago, in a far away place, I studied Russian at school. I can occasionally dredge up a bit to impress my children.
Glad you found the courage to join -- we are very friendly and (this being a British-based forum) we have a pub! Well, a virtual pub, but that means everything is available, it costs nothing and has no calories. Win! And did I mention we also have a treehouse?
Hello from Colorado and welcome to the forum, Maria. I'm glad you decided to join us - we are a pretty harmless group...well, except for the tremendous amount of enabling that goes on which can harm one's bank account. I hope you'll share pictures of your work with us - we really love to see what everyone is working on.
It's good to meet you - I have always wanted to visit Russia. I majored in history in college and one of my areas of focus was (then) Soviet history. That was a long time ago but I still love to read about Russia. I also collect matryoshka dolls - only "real" ones made in Russia. One of my dream cruises is a Scandinavian one that includes a couple days in St. Petersburg...oh imagine the additions I could make to my collection.

Hello again everyone and thank you so much for your warm welcome!
I will definitely show photos of my projects. Some enabling would be useful too.
It is amazing to find people interested in Russian culture, set aside people who actually learned Russian (trust me, I know how difficault it is). I would be glad to help you with any Russian-related stuff, like websites, travel plans etc. Just give me a shout!
I do hope you feel comfortable here and enjoy your visits.
The biggest problem is all the encouragement to do better. It has a terrible effect - as you have already seen with my 'Honeymoon Portrait'. Just over a year ago I would never have considered a picture with over 35 colours. Now I'm considering one with 151 thread colours and that's just the start...
