Re: HAED mini diamond birthstone update 02/06/15
Good luck with your exam. Metallics are so frustrating. I tend to anchor them twice, so I'll go through the back of a few stitches, then pull the thread back across and go through them again. That helps me.
Re: HAED mini diamond birthstone update 02/06/15
Hi all, thanks for your encouragement. I sat my exam yesterday, I don't think it was a total disaster but I am going to grumble for ages about the fact that I was asked to draw a diagram of the electron transport chain from memory.
The Kreinik thread arrived yesterday and it's a lot more yellow than the metallic DMC thread I've been using. I think I may have gotten the hang of using the DMC now (great tip to secure it twice!) and I'm really pleased by how the folds of the dress are looking. I can't wait to do the other half of her face, because I think that will really bring the design to life.
Amazing how optimistic I've become now the exam of doom is over!
Here's the latest pic. I also bought a needle minder when I purchased the Kreinik, and I don't know how I've managed to stitch without one!

Thanks! I also have to say a huge thank you to the cast and crew of Game of Thrones for their awesome company while I stitched. The project just seemed to grow before my eyes while my brain was absorbed in the story (box sets of seasons 1-4). Sheer pleasure.
Re: HAED mini diamond birthstone update 02/06/15
Oh boy. I hated trying to learn the stupid electron transport chain and the Kreb's cycle. I never could memorize all of the steps. I'm so sorry you had to do the whole thing.Aesandre wrote:Hi all, thanks for your encouragement. What a lovely update! I'm so glad for you that your exam is finished. I've recently gone back to school, and I know how nervous I am studying for an exam. I've learned that stitching for a short while brings a much needed break to my brain while spending a lot of time studying.

Hi all,
I have been working like a demon on this thing (although it may not seem like it!) and I think I only have 5300 stitches to do.
I have found a parking technique that seems to work work me, albeit I need to find a way of keeping the threads out of the way.
Here's the latest pic:
I have worked phenomenally hard on this since December I have been on the verge of giving up and starting again so many times. I will be delighted to get this finished!

That is beautiful & you have done lovely neat stitching. Once completed it will be a wonderful picture. Look forward to seeing another update & watching this project grow. Hope you can have a bit more stitching time now to help ease your stresses.

You're so close and it looks amazing!!
Re: HAED mini diamond birthstone COMPLETED!
IT IS FINISHED!! IT IS FINISHED!!! AHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Sorry. That was the demented scream of someone who has been working ceaselessly on a project for just over a year who has finally finished the darned thing. I'm better now *cough*
It's about 8 months or so behind schedule and has driven me round the bend but at least she is finished and I can finally give my poor patient best friend her birthday present
It hasn't sunk in yet that it's finally completed - I woke up this morning and my first thought was that I still had a bit left to do. It's a slightly odd feeling that something that occupied so much of my time and was constantly in the back of my mind is now over. In a weirdly masochistic way I'm going to miss it.
I'm not sure what colour frame would be best to compliment it - does anyone have any suggestions?
Here she is in all her glory:
