Newbie says Hi!

Post by Little Wicken »

Hi all!

I am so happy I found this forum. I read a few of the posts before and I thought I take the plunge and sign up.

A little about my stitching "history" - I learned embroidery from my grannie and my mum, when I was about 10 and took up smaller projects from then on every so often. However, this January madness started and I purchased a chart from Scarlet Quince. I didn't do much work on it as I got scared. After finding Mrs Milky Bar Kid's and Carolyn Mazzeo's you tube videos I decided to get of my bum and get on with it all. Aaand I promptly got a HAED design as well to go with the other one. Madness wright? But this time I will persevear! And managed to get a WIP list startec as well.

I am looking forward to reading your comments, topics and I am sure I will have a lot of questions. I hope you all don't mind :D

 Hi LW and Welcome from sunny and warm Brisbane its great that you have joined us. Sounds like you have jumped in the deep in with the Scarlet Quince one and then the HAED too. Big and all as they no doubt are it is still 1 stitch at a time.
Ask away with any questions, we were all beginners once.

For me it was, like you, with lesson from my grandmother and a very exacting teacher she was too but it has paid off over the years. One thing she drummed into me "1 piece of work at a time" and I still only work on 1 main piece although do take breaks to do card motifs or handanger.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of your work. :D

Hi all,

Thank you so much for the warm welcome :D
I do agree with you Squirrel, I should only take up one work at a time and I though hard about how to make sure I do not overload myself. So I figured, if I have the two big ones on rotation with one or two little projects, I will not feel like I never finish anything. This way I will sneak in a little finish here and there whilst getting on with the others. I have to say - Emerald is exciting to stitch, but I wish not all the colours were blended. No such luck there! But I will love it forever, once I finish it.

Also, I am doing an Open University course at the moment, so I will have to seriously project manage myself with all my spare time. Nuts :tizzy:

I will post pictures as soon as I managed to get through my first page or so of Emerald though, just so you guys can keep me in check. Nice way to record progress against myself.

Re the HAED design: I haven't started this one yet as I am waiting on the threads and fabric, but as there are no blends at all I figure I should be fine.

The small WIPs of the future will be definitely just that - small.

Have a nice day all :)

 Hello LW and welcome to the forum from South Carolina! Ask away! Like Sally said, we were all beginners once and even those of us who have been stitching for years often have questions. I've learned more in my 4 years on the forum than in the 20 years of stitching before then. I also used to think that it had to be one project at a time. (I behaved as if I would be arrested if I stitched two at the same time or started a new one before the last was finished). The result was that if I got bored or didn't like a project I'd stop stitching for months. Of course, I went off the deep end when I freed myself up, but I am a happier stitcher for that and enjoy my pieces even more. Can't wait to see your Princess and the Pea. I have the full size chart and don't know when, if ever, I will get to it. Mini's are great options because they are more reasonably sized to allow for a finish. I have stitched several, completed one. I can't wait to see photos of that, as well as your SQ piece.
Looking forward to getting to know you!

I love those Mucha images, they would go so well with my late Victorian house.

Very brave of you to start something so large. And then to go onto a HAED. Good luck with them both. Please keep us updated with progress photos - it's fun to share.

Regards,

Richard.

Hi there, Little Wicken! Greetings from Chicago.

I am working on my first mega-project, also from Scarlet Quince, and it is just as everyone says, just one sititch at a time. Getting that first page done is a great feeling, even when there is so many more to go. I love doing this one so much that I now have five more charts from them just waiting for me!

Little breaks from the big projects are a good idea--I'm taking November off to do Christmas presents/ornaments.
