Image host options

Post by Inkysloth »

Hi all,

I occasionally want to post things I've stitched as gifts, but don't want to put these on Flickr in case the recipient spots them.

I'm using this partially as a test to see if I can shield photos from public view on Flickr whilst still being able to link to them:

But also to ask what photo hosting sites do you use & find easy to use and link to, reliable, not loaded with adverts?

:applesauce: Cute little seahorse! I use Photobucket and have found it to be pretty reliable. you can make pics or albums private. They upgrade periodically (don't almost all of them), and I know that some members have found some of the changes make the program more difficult to use, or had problems with it. I've been pretty lucky up to now (watch, I will now have problems since I said I don't). Flickr is the other one I've seen used the most.

I can't help with the photo sites. I have my own websites so I don't use other sites for my photos.

I've had good luck with photobucket for the most part, but recently not too happy---it's definitely not agreeing with my firefox without freezing up completely and the only way I have been able to access it today is thru internet explorer---which I almost never use

Thanks both!

That's one question definitely answered - if someone I'm not "friends" with on Flickr just looks at my photostream, the seahorse doesn't show - but if I provide the direct link, as here, it shows. Yay!

I also use photobucket. I did some organizing a few months back and moved some photos around so my links were lost, and even though the newest update bugs me a little, I find it's reliable enough and I can upload straight from my phone.

FountainPenNetwork?!?
I hesitate to say it, but it could be used as a host. Not really what the upload section was intended for, but there is no restriction on what photo content can be uploaded so long as it's family compatible.

Crossstitchforum gallery?
Can be linked to directly I think too.

I generally use Photobucket, but in recent months the ads have killed IE on a number of occasions. The net result is I upload, get the link and then close as fast as I can.

Richard.

I use Chrome with an ad blocker to prevent getting flooded with ads on such sites.

I also use Adblocker with Firefox and don't have that problem much either. Also have it on Safari and Chrome since I use them sometimes. I've not had problems with Photobucket and Firefox, but have had other websites freeze up on me now and then, which is when I switch to Safari usually.
