Taking the plunge

Post by Mumto4cats »

Hi everyone,

I have just joined this forum, my very first, so please forgive me if I don't get it right.

My Mum introduced me to cross stitch many years ago, she was an incredible crafter, she could pick up a new craft and within a couple of weeks you would think she had been doing it for years - knitting, crochet, cross stitch, embroidery, silk painting, beading and the list goes on.

Sadly she passed away four years ago, and my stitchy bug seemed to go too. I did start a picture I was going to give as a birth sampler, it just needs all the backstitching to be done, 18 months ago. It is still sitting there looking at me forlornly.

I was browsing the web the other day, came across this forum and had a nosey at some of the SAL pictures. Suddenly I was routing through my stash, and came across a fractal project I had kitted up over 7 years ago.

Then I discovered that you can "rotate" projects. Wow who knew you could have more than one on the go!!!

So my mission.... fractal 400x256 stitches, Pokemon picture for my nephew 14x25", and finishing all the pictures that just need backstitching.

I hope to post pictures of my progress, once I get the hang of it!

 Hello and welcome to the forum from South Carolina! I too made the amazing discovery when I joined the forum that there aren't any cross stitch police to arrest me if I worked on more than one project at a time. I went a bit wild with that knowledge (as you can tell from my signature list) I know, but I never get bored with stitching now. If I discover that I have found other things to do in my free time besides stitching, I know it is time to rotate to another project. Other people can work on one project for a long time without losing their stitchy bug, but unfortunately (or fortunately) I'm not one of them.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of your projects. We love pictures!

Same here - I used to be a one-at-a-time stitcher...I'm much happier as a let's-do-several-at-once stitcher (although I do still feel quite guilty when I hear a neglected design weeping in the closet).

Welcome from the Mississippi Gulf Coast!

I'm one of those one-at-a-time stitchers. I used to have several going at once, but found that I never really finished anything and mostly lost interest in them because I was working on them so long that my tastes changed. Now I give a lot of thought to what I want to do next and once I start it, I commit to it. I am glad the stitchy-police don't make us all do one-at-a time or do a rotation. :) It's another one of those to-each-her-own things.

Pictures! We want to see pictures!

Thank you for the warm welcome.

I am feeling a bit frustrated at the moment as I can't start stitching yet. I am waiting for my replacement lap frame to arrive, as my old one looks a bit worse for wear.

I have gridded my fabric, something I don't normally do as the one and only time I did it I went horribly wrong and ended up abandoning the piece. Fingers crossed this time @rotfl:

I have also attached it to the roller frame but I don't know where the sidebars have gone so it is now impossible to stitch!

Going to the Christmas craft fair at the NEC on Saturday, haven't been for several years, and I can't wait.

Happy Sunday stitching.

When I started stitching I couldn't imagine having more than one project going at the same time. Then I started getting a little bored with the project I was working on. It was pretty and fun, but the colors were rather dull and I kept seeing all these patterns with beautiful colors. So I decided I would try a rotation, just to see what happened. I'm so glad I did! I'm never bored now.

Looking forward to see your projects!

 Hi and a belated Welcome from me too in very warm Brisbane. You certainly have got your stitchy bug back and I hope that the replacement frame gets there soon so you can settle in and stitch. Enjoy the Christmas Craft Fair too. :D

Thank you Sally, still waiting for the frame, so a bit frustrated. I did think of taking it off the scroll frame again....

Really looking forward to Saturday ...only 3 days to go!!

If your side bars are missing, you know you can buy replacements without replacing the whole frame, yes?

And there's always stitching in-hand if the urge is too great to wait. :)

Welcome from the West of Scotland! So glad you found your stitchy bug was lurking here. (I did wonder whose bug it was propping up the bar in the Stash & Grab.) Look forward to seeing your WIPs. Do post them up on a separate thread -- then we can admire your work and cheer you on. :D
