I had the most trouble with motif 5 because of the dove's eyes (almost typed devil again ) and the woven bars and trying to do them at the same time which wasn't working for me at all. On both motifs 8 and 9 I plotted out ahead of time what path I would take for the cable stitches because there were so different paths I could take. And considering how much cable stitch and double cables there are in the next ones I'm glad I did that. Next time I will have to start stitching when ya'll do or just enough after you start so I will have pieces to refer back to. That has been an amazing help.

These are just so beautiful Carole, well done on making such exquisite squares. I never tire of looking at hardanger as it is a very beautiful section of needlecraft. Look forward to seeing the next ones
Cats are very determined when they decide to sit in a certain place aren't they? Our 2 new cats have started sitting on my lap but luckily with the hoop I can hold it above them. It is when I have my laptop on my lap as against putting it on the table that I have to be firm & make sure they do not come up again. Each of them started coming on my lap just before we moved, 2 months after we got them, so they really have settled with us & it is great
This is coming along very nicely indeed. Obviously, feline oversight is an issue, but she means well (?).
Do persevere with working dove's eyes and woven bars together. I had a bit of an issue sometimes figuring out from which half-worked bar to start the dove's eye, but in the end it makes for a more elegant piece -- and much less trading thread on the back, too. I cordially dislike working dove's eyes from kloster blocks -- I always pull too hard so it's uneven, which irks me.
Motifs 11 & 12 finished! I love stitching this one and though I am going to go back to my HAED during the week and Wedding Sampler on week-ends once it is completed, I might have to look for another sampler or am thinking of restitching Mabel's Song of the Weather as a sampler again. Not sure. Would love to do this on white on white, but not sure how my eyes would feel about it. Anyway, still have three squares to go.
Not as much feline supervision this time as we have had some lovely weather the past few days:

Thank you ladies! I knew that I enjoyed Hardanger stitching, but have surprised myself in how much I have enjoyed stitching this piece. One of the things that happened not completely be accident is that in alternating between the solid and the variegated thread, all of the squares with ship satin stitch are stitched in the variegated thread which I think has given it an interesting pattern. I might have another go at it (actually almost sure I will) switching the solid and variegated squares. I know I have more than enough thread left (since I got way too much of course).
The biggest problem is going to be not giving it to my sister way way before her birthday (10 mts away ). Which means I'll have to find another group of patterns to stitch (wouldn't that be a shame )

The view from our back door is pretty much why we bought our house. It backs up to a tidal creek and there are lots of water birds (and assorted other critters at times). We used to get otters too, but that was a long time ago and development further up the creek has really put a dent in what we see. We also would get the occasional alligator (there is a retention pond on one side of the house that connects to the creek) but haven't seen one of those in a long time too and that is perfectly fine. I had to cut down a beautiful big mimosa tree in the fall as it was dying. I will miss it when the weather gets hot as it provided a lot of shade for the house. Also uprooted the patio (I think you can see a stump in the picture).

YAY It's finished! It's beautiful! One serious cutting error repaired as good as I could. Now I have to decide if I am going to re stitch this (not right away) because its a special gift and I don't know if I should give it this way or not. If I do redo it (and I might at a future time) I'll switch the variegate with the single color thread so it will feel a little different. Comments appreciated.

Hope you find another Sampler like this. Won't wait this long to get started!
Thanks for looking.

It's very pretty. Your choice of colours, and the combination of variegated and monotone works well together. The changes in colours don't distract the eye from the sculptural or lacy effect of the stitching, either. Very well done.
