Scroll or Stand Reccomendations
Hi All, I am new to this forum but have been doing cross stitch for many years. I took a break of several years, but have now started back up doing a piece for a bridal shower gift for my daughter. I have always used hoops, and I hate them! I would like to get a scroll or frame, but would like some recommendations on good ones.

Re: Scroll or Stand Reccomendations
Where are you? if not in Europe then my suggestion may not be easy to get.
I have an Elbesee scroll frame with snaps, 12" x 24" as shown here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Elbesee-Easy- ... 2363c11773
I still have my non-snap one too, but the rollers slacken off a bit now: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Elbesee-Hand- ... 1955225624 I used that one as my only frame for 5 years and it has had about 250k stitches on it. I mention it because these frames are not 'rest of life' quality frames (unless you have something seriously wrong with you..) and you can then decide if it is good enough. I think they are, else I'd not have bought the snap version.
Regards,
Richard.

Re: Scroll or Stand Reccomendations
Hello from Colorado and welcome to the forum.
Like Carole, I use hoops (love LOVE the Morgan brand!), Qsnaps, or scroll frames - it all depends on the project. I also have used stretcher bars, which are perfect for seeing the entire piece of fabric. I also have a Lowery stand, which I love.

Re: Scroll or Stand Reccomendations
My preference is to use QSnaps. Though I have bought a scroll frame and stand for a larger project as I felt there was too much excess fabric on the QSnaps for me to work on it easily.
On the weekend I also made myself a stand to rest my QSnap projects on out of PVC pipes and connectors. Some inspiration for these can be found at https://www.facebook.com/PVCNeedleworkFrame/ . I made one similar to this http://imgur.com/a/INru5 (but with different dimensions and a bar across the middle for stability). You just need a trip to the hardware store for a PVC pipe cutter, and the parts to make the stand (I bought the 15mm sized pipes and my QSnap clamps will fit on it).

Re: Scroll or Stand Reccomendations
Thank you for all the replies. I've never seen or heard of q snaps before, but looked them up. What I found was packages of separate pieces. Do you buy different lengths or types of them for different projects? Also, are they easy to use?

Re: Scroll or Stand Reccomendations
I really enjoy Qsnaps as well. There are many different lengths and they can be interchangeable. It's also nice to have a Qsnap cover to be able to roll any extra fabric into the cover to protect it. Niki on this forum makes some really nice ones, her website is here: Cirrus Creations.
I have some 6 inch ones, 8 inch and 11 inch lengths and they work for pretty much everything. Sometimes I like having a larger Qsnap in a stand and that gives me more room without having to roll up as much fabric. I'm currently using an Artisan Designs Ergo stand that I love.
When I use Qsnaps I put some felt under the part that snaps down which helps protect my fabric and/or stitching, plus it keeps the tension tight. Since I've started using Qsnaps I have no interest in a hoop. I always found them difficult, but that's just me likely.
Hope that helps!

Re: Scroll or Stand Reccomendations
Flexi-hoops for me every time if the project is relatively small; for bigger things I am devoted to my Millennium frame and lap stand. I find good strong and even tension very important and find that both these options give me that.
I use flexi-hoops up to 10" but in the larger sizes the tension does become a bit less; still better than I get woth wooden hoops though! Tension on the Millennium frame is incredible, you can bounce marbles off the fabric
but it is quite an expensive option and Needle Needs are, unfortunately, not the best of communicators (to put it mildly); their frames, however, are beautifully crafted and I have definitely found mine worth the wait.

Re: Scroll or Stand Reccomendations
I use a wooden hoop on a seat stand for small projects as I get pain in my hand when gripping a hoop for any length of time. Like Mabel I have a Needleneeds Millennium frame and a lap stand. Superb craftsmanship but the wait for these was many months.
