I discovered this forum while searching for a (free) pattern making program. In my enthusiasm, I offered people very dear to me to stitch a photo of their choice for them. So this time I will have to do the process of pattern making myself, instead of selecting a ready-to-go pattern. Let's say I do like a challenge.
My first cross-stitch work dates back to the early 1990's when I was about 10yrs old, but if I recall I never finished it. Since then, I stitched a couple of small projects. About 2 years ago I got infected by the virus again and what was supposed to become a gift-card became my first framed work (and my first experience with pattern making programmes).
When I am not cross-stitching, I do like to crochet and sew (and search the internet for tips and tricks on all 3 subjects). It is great to be able to learn a lot from all of you (more) experienced people and hopefully I can help others too.
Hello and welcome to the forum from South Carolina! Glad that you found us. We have several members who stitch from their own designs and use pattern making programs. And one member who designed his own program and freely shares it with other members as well.

Welcome to the forum - if you want some help with creating charts (or even have the work taken off your hands entirely) our Richard's program (can't find the link but there isone!) yields fab results and skitzzzzz does custom charts.
I have found Richards program (BlendThreads) and am in the process of discovering its possibilities while preparing the photo for conversion to a chart. Hopefully I will figure out how to post pictures (a quick read of the topic in the 'tips and tricks' section surely wasn't enough) so I can keep you posted on the progress.
Most of us use Photo Image - http://www.photoimage.com" target="_blank - to post our pictures on here. It is free and delightfully easy to use even for old mixed up heads like mine. Read the FAQ page as it has some good directions on use.
So glad you have found Richard's programme and yell if you need help - he really is a most helpful person.
