Away AGAIN!!! Yay!! Home!!

Post by wendywombat »

I'm off Again tomorrow to UK.
Things are progressing to sort out my Dad's stuff! I am now 'officially' a Deputy of the Court of Protection which enables me to handle his affairs. It's taken 4 months to get this so now the work to clear and sell his house starts! (don't shoot the Deputy!! )

This will be a short visit over the weekend. We'll have to go over again in a few weeks time for a longer visit.

:ratherbe: :ratherbe: :ratherbe: but at least I can collect PERCY PUFFIN another kit and a set of DMC Colouris threads which I had sent to my Mum's house. :whoop: :whoop:
(I was trying to save postage costs! )

Good to know that you finally have the power you need to finalise things and can then relax a bit once it is all done. Take care and don't wear yourself out. :)

I'm Back!!! But off again next week!  This time we take the Ferry and :driving: up to see daughter and grandkids which is going to be good.

Hard work over the w/end though! We found the Existence of the House Deeds but not the Actual Deeds. There was a letter at the very bottom of a box of rubbish in the roof space requesting my Dad to fill in a form and send it off with a cheque to have the Deeds sent to him.........DATED 1977!!!
looks like he never replied! At least we now have a paper trail to follow and Proof of Residence/Ownership.

HoHum so we continue!
Thank you all for your support! :toast: :grouphug:

Glad you're back. Shame you need to return.

If the house was sold to your dad after the 1940's, it'll be in the Land Registry. After the law changed in the 1990's or 2000's the deeds are superseded by the Land Registry entry, and you can have it registered in your name with no deeds. Solicitors/Conveyances should know the details.

Regards,

Richard

Welcome home Wendy! At least your next trip over will include time with your daughter and grandchildren, so that is a reward for more searching. Hoping it gets resolved soon. Can't wait to see your Puffin!

If its not one thing it is another. Good on you for finding the start of the paper trail which you can follow. Hurray, the next trip later this week will be reward for all the angst you are going through. It is sad that he left everything in such a muddle for you to try and sort out. A lesson to all of us as we get older to get our affairs in order. :)

Ha! The house was built for my Dad in1956 and HE NEVER REGISTERED IT with the land Registry!:tantrum: He's been the sole owner. We have a solicitor on the case and are still searching the roof. You would Not believe what is up there!! Mostly rubbish, but several hundred old Jazz Lp's, photos, tools, a wooden work bench which was built up there so won't come down through the hatch...there are no stairs only a ladder! He has thrown everything up so it's all piled high and there's no walk space left. Rubbish in old plastic bags which have fallen to dust (so they do degrade, then!! )
It's a Nightmare!!  :tizzy:

I remember when my Father sold the house we had grown up in, and my sister and I had to pack and go through the more than 25 years worth of stuff, including an old storage shed that was in the corner of the unfinished portion of the basement. We must have found 20 large Mason Jars filled with pickles that my mother had put there. Every year she made fresh homemade dill pickles and must not have thrown out what had not been used. We put them in the trash (we weren't going to open them) and looking through the kitchen window saw a family taking them away.
We ran like crazy shouting at them, don't eat any!!! They promised they only wanted the jars. We were so relieved that there wasn't going to be a news story about a family dying from eating old pickles and that the police weren't going to be looking for the murderers. You never know what you are going to find.

This will be over eventually.

Oh my goodness what a time you're having of it.

I hope the solicitors can sort out the register stuff so the house can be sold, what a nightmare.

I do hope you are remembering to look after yourself too in all the travelling and the stress.

Do take care of yourself please.
