Excited about stitching retreat

Post by Mabel Figworthy »

*hops up and down with excitement* DH has just booked me a two-day medieval embroidery retreat at Coombe Abbey for my birthday/anniversary/Christmas/Saint Nicholas (well, it's quite a big present :-) ) It's taught by RSN tutors Angela Bishop and Sarah Homfray (I've done goldwork with them before) and I am really looking forward to it. Is it August yet???

:whoop: :whoop: :whoop: WOW, WOW & WOW what a truly wonderful gift to receive. Really great to be taught by RSN aficionados. What a brilliant experience that will be for learning Medieval Embroidery, no wonder you are jumping up & down for joy & can't wait for August to come. I look forward eagerly to hearing about all of it. Something I would like to go on but unable to. Well done to your husband for choosing such a wonderful gift for you :applesauce: :applesauce:

Hélène, Coombe Abbey is fortunately on our doorstep (relatively speaking), so I can travel there and back on both days (the class is from 10 till 5, with a buffet lunch - which I'm sure we'll need!) With the added expense of overnight accommodation, however nice it would be to stay in such grand surroundings, it would really have been too much.

The program is all about medieval embroidery, both learning about it and learning to do it, embroidering a face with crown and collar in split stitch and goldwork as done on the medieval Opus Anglicanum church garments (and secular things, but I think they are much rarer). It;s one of those techniques that leaves you with a very small project after lots of hours of stitching, leading people who don't stitch to say "all that money and two days for THAT?" but I don't care, I'm going to love it!

:whoop: :whoop: :whoop: God Bless Husband for such a wonderful and thoughtful gift. Of course you are going to enjoy it and deservedly so. I won't even try to think what amazing pieces of stitching will arise after that weekend's tutoring. :)

:whoop: :whoop: How neat is that, will be fabulous 2 days for you. Look forward to seeing what you stitch at that experience. Wonderful of your DH to buy this for you, no wonder you are overjoyed - hope you gave him a very big CWTCH. Enjoy every moment of it :D

I had to look that up, Blossom, but yes, I definitely did - there may have been a kiss with it as well :-)

Thank you, Mabel, for your answer. I clicked on the link on your first post and saw the faces. When you put your mouse on them, you can see how intricate the stitches are. It is going to be amazing!
The history about Medieval Embroidery will be also very interesting.
Each day is quite long, 10am until 5pm. How exciting! :whoop:

oohhhh I clicked on the link too and saw the faces and how they enlarge, they are fascinating.

I can understand why you are so excited Mabel.

I suspect we may see "English Work" appearing in our Mabel's Masterpieces in the future :)
