Funny Cross Stitch Stories

Post by Podolyanka »

 Had a half-embarassing, half -funny situation this morning. One of this month's birthday "kids"- a well preserved pensioner, like me, called me to thank for the pictures he received (I passed them over as was not well and could not travel through half the city). I dont know what clicked in my head, but to the question about the author/history of the design I started telling him about Luca-S ' "Guelder Rose". He is a great listener, so learnt from me about the painter from Leningrad who had painted the watercolour, about the shades in her picture which were too dark, and how wise it was of the cross stitch designer to do without them in the chart. So when the talk was over, I was happy with all the compliments my work received and proud of being such an expert on Luca-S designs.

I finished walking the dog and marched back home to stitch. I was happy and proud all the morning. And then- like a lightning- I did not give him the "Guelder Rose", his was the Schnauzer on plastic canvas and the Jacobean bellpull. It all did not seem funny at all. He could have thought I was getting completely crazy.

At the end of the working day I called him and explained that the free lecture he heard in the morning should be forgotten and all I know about his birthday present is that it is called Jacobean bell pull. And that Maria Stuart used to stitch similar designs. He said the lecture was worth hearing and made him interested in the design it was on. He googled and liked what he saw.

It seemsd that next year I will know for sure what to stitch for at least one person.

Anybody else brave enough to confess of some embarassing/funny experience because of cross stitch?

A lovely ending to an easy mistake Lyudmila and as you say, you now know what to do for him next year.
