Re: Heatwave
Had some showers recently but not much in way of rain, Soon to b sweltering again so not much of anything will get done. Hosepipe ban next week but we only use watering can to water flower beds. Rest of garden paved & although we like to see lawn this year we are glad we do not have one. Neighbours lawns all yellow & parched deep cracks in some of them too!

Re: Heatwave
We had our first rain for 2 months on Friday. Naturally, it started just before my eldest daughter's degree ceremony at Canterbury Cathedral.
It stopped 20 mins after we left the cathedral precinct.
By which time we were out of our glad rags and could put waterproofs on. There were a few, a very few, drops of rain this morning from clear blue sky this morning. I think the humidity had just got to the point where rain was the only option.
Regards
Richard.

Congratulations! Graduations are wonderful celebrations even if they can sometimes be long and boring (depending on number of graduates and speakers) until your graduate's name is called and then the whole ceremony becomes a fascinating and wonderful event.
We often have the kind of rain you described, especially when the event is held outdoors.

Congratulations! When DS graduated I had to sit through all the speeches etc in both English and Welsh!
Another hot, humid, sticky hard to breathe day here.

Re: Heatwave
Congrats on daughter's graduation Richard & Tracy.
Cooler here today, yesterday humid. Internet doing weird things so may have a storm later on. Hope all in the hottest areas will cope with this week's intense heat. Thankfully we are a few degrees cooler now, not like the other week when we were the hottest area for days.
Butterflies & bees coming to plants now the flowers are full of nectar. Only 2 or 3 butterflies around but good to see them.
Garnet, hope you will soon feel more like yourself, I know you are sure to be hotter than where I live. Remember ladybird swarms years ago too. Masses of red everywhere. I like red but not that kind

Re: Heatwave
Thankyou all, we arre both very proud of eldest brat. It's quite humbling to realise your daughter is a great deal more intelligent than you are, and now I learn from her rather than vice versa.
I hope we'll have something similar when youngest brat graduates in 2 years time. She's taking archaeology, and adores grubbing about in holes looking for other people's rubbish.
Heatwave may break for us on Friday. With thunderstorms. So will need our flood defences to be deployed tomorrow evening so we'll be ready if it actually happens.
Regards
Richard.

Re: Heatwave
Congratulations on your daughter's graduation, Richard. Graduation is departing into new life, right? I cannot speak for Britain, but we here know that rain in such cases means good luck in her career.

Re: Heatwave
Good luck?
Not in the UK, where it just means the weather has returned to normal.
I used to live in the South West where it is much wetter than Kent, to the extent in the winter of 1986/1987 it started raining in November and never completely stopped until February. I was heartily sick of the rain by then and my motorcycle clothing was growing all sorts of interesting fungi.
