Can you imagine having a whole set of 700 shades of silk to play with???????

Certainly they are very tempting and having them all would open a whole new world of colours and sheen. Dreams are great aren't they.

I suspect I'd never end up using the silks.
Why? Well, I'd probably never find a project special enough for such special threads. Would gaze at them every now & again and think how good the really special project could be, but never get to use them.

:?

Richard.

They are true treasure for someone who can use them for new beautiful designs. I am sure, Mabel, that you will know what to do with those beautiful threads. Personally I would just look and touch and feel proud for having them.

As it is, I am looking forward to your new designs- silk or no silk.

Richard and others who have commented (here and elsewhere) in the same vein - I used to be very much of the "this is too special to use" persuasion, but several years ago I changed my mind. They are beautiful, and I enjoy using them, and so I use them and enjoy :-). OK, I wouldn't use them for a tea towel  - mostly because they might not wash very well - but I am now a great believer in "if it is beautiful enough to look at, it's beautiful enough to use so you actually see it!

At the moment we (DH and his siblings and spouses) are tidying/clearing the bungalow which my MIL has just moved out of after FIL's death. We have found the most amazing tablecloths, napkins, silverware and what not, most of it never used. We do use cloth napkins, but not such fine ones, but I said to DH if no-one else wanted them why not have them and use them! He said "we've got a set of those ourselves"   turns out they're tucked away in some cupboard and I've never even seen them in 13 years of marriage, and they're never used! We've decided to get them out, make them feel wanted and appreciated, and put them to the use for which they were made; I'm sure they'll be much happier that way :-)

Maybe not the Whole Set of those Utterly Beautiful threads, but for a special project then Yes, I would buy the colours I wanted stitch with them and treasure the result.

if I was lucky enough to 'acquire'  the Whole Set then I would put them onto the bed and ROLL AROUND IN THEM!! @rotfl: @rotfl:

Fancy finding those fabric serviettes. When I was clearing out my dad's house I found just that!!
My late step-mother had embroidered 8 autumn theme serviettes on linen. They were complete. At the bottom of the bag was a HUGE linen tablecloth with the same motifs embroidered on them. There was a small amount of finishing stitching left to do and luckily there was a skein of thread also in the bag. I found out which stitch it was from my stitch book and finished it off.
I gave it all to my daughter and they use it most days. These items become tomorrows heirlooms and thus deserve to be used and loved.

But Mabel! They are 30% off! A bargain!

We use all that beautiful stuff handed down by parents and grandparents. Eventually it wears out to either be mended, repurposed or dealt with in some useful fashion. If you don’t use linen, it deteriorates (as does silk, which positively NEEDS to be used, worn and etc). Shrouds, as the Scots wisely say, don’t have pockets. Use it and enjoy it now; or give it to someone who will.

I know! This is what irks me - that I'll be buying these in dribs and drabs at £2.85 a skein when I could have them for £2 a skein if only...... :-)
