Seems to be a lot of them about. Wonder if they are virulently anti cross stitch?
Anyway, thanks for getting things back on line. I do really miss you all when CSF is down.
One question does raise its head, though. The board software looks as if it may be a bit elderly, and doesn't appear to have been changed since I joined in 2014 (not to say there haven't been changes under the hood that normal users can't see). Is that leading to vulnerabilities that newer software doesn't suffer from? The other forum I regularly visit, the Fountain Pen Network, is currently going through a big upgrade (new servers and software) partly to reduce their risk of successful attack. Mind you, they tend to have to cope with a few more members and posts, 4 million posts and 112,000 members with a max of 68000 members & guests online at any one time. During one denial of service attack they had over a million requests in a minute, but the server package they subscribe to could have coped with 10x that for a short period. The point ? I'm trying to understand is whether it's random or if there is a vulnerability that new software would fix.
I, too, am glad we are back!
Many thanks to Alex and Chris for their unending hardwork!!
Richard,
I wondered the same thing. Granted I don't know as much as you may when it comes to computers, but other than the Sherlockian forum, I never noticed this type of thing before. The difference between this forum and the Sherlockian is that we have mods and members that care to keep it up and running. Once the Sherlockian forum went down after an attack, it stayed down for good.
Alex & Chris, a big pile of thanks to you both for getting us back online so quickly. What a absolute main those hackers are and they don't seem to want to shut up.
You are BOTH AMAING GUYS THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNTIRING HELP - IT IS APPRECIATED.
