COMPUTERS

Post by Squirrel »

are very useful things when they behave. Yesterday (Saturday) I was posting a piece re Mabel'e Forumversary and suddenly no Forum just a big notice ERROR 405 or something. I tried a couple of times during the day but no luck in getting the Forum back so I emailed Serinde to check that it was my computer not the whole CSF down. Back came a fast reply it's my computer so I had to go seek help from SIL.

He came in a while ago, sat down pulled the keyboard out and touched 2 or 3 keys and lo and behold and he left with the instruction log out and try it out. I was back on the FORUM again. When I went down to thank him he said it had often happened to him when working at home, something about the tower way over in another suburb.

I did have another try Mabel to send you CONGRATULATIONS on YOUR FORUMVERSARY but it came up with the same nonsense. Thankfully it didn't stay so I am back on again. Very handy having a computer engineer on the premises - most of the time anyway.

Good that you SIL sorted it quickly, Sally. Once , we had the BLUE SCREEN, when nothing works. DS had to spend some time fixing it and he assured me that things are always fixable ( but it is sometimes time consuming)

I am no computer engineer, but I know a moderate amount about fixing computer problems. And I really find having this knowledge the exact opposite of 'handy'.
People should remember the old saying 'A Problem Shared is a Problem Doubled', and the other one of 'A Friend in Need is a Pest'.

Hrrumph.

OK, having got that off my chest about he who shall be nameless (FIL), I'll return to normal mode: Glad you're back on line.

Regards,

Richard.
