Kindness of Strangers

Post by HannahM »

hope this is OK to put here& you don't feel it is too maudling. but I wanted to tell someone as I had an unexpected gift this morning. Flowers given to me as a day over their sell by date & there are still quite a lot of buds to open.

I have been away a lot this summer holiday time with various family members as it is my first summer time without DH & I accepted all offers given. Today I stayed behind at holiday cottage as sons, DIL's & grandchildren gone boating, kayak or canoeing. I felt like having a lazy time until they return later on. Wandered to nearby village for bits & pieces & happened to be at the right place at the right time. The local supermarket was sorting out sell by foods & were going to throw away the flowers until one assistant asked if I would like them. I was really choked at this unexpected gesture. There are artificial flowers in vases where we are staying so I brought the flowers home &. Another Nanny I became friendly with had gone home earlier this morning or I could have shared them with her.

Thank you if you read this - I didn't want to phone family & tell them but feel so to lucky to have been given these by strangers & wanted to tell someone.

My family will have a lovely surprise when they get back. Although at first glance they may think I have been splashing my cash!

Hope to settle down to x stitching when I get home. :)
Hannah :)

Of course it is perfectly fine to post this. Many of us will post all kinds of threads unrelated to cross stitch or crafting. Sometimes about warm and happy and loving events and sometimes about not so warm or happy or loving events. Those will often show up in the Stash & Grab thread with lots of virtual smashing of china etc (we have a room devoted to that which really works wonders when you are very frustrated or angry about anything). The opposite is also true and we have many celebrations there as well.

I think your story is a lovely one and made me smile. We are the perfect place to share thoughts and feelings that you don't want to wait till family or friends are available. Sounds like you are having a good summer with lots of family around. I think we are seeing a lot of late summer holidays right now, as I'm sure you've noticed that things have slowed down here quite a bit.

Enjoy the rest of your vacation and remember the forum is available 24/7!!! The Stash & Grab never closes.

I am delighted that you have shared this lovely story and how wonderful to be given them to enjoy for the remainder of your holiday away from home.
It is a lovely memory to have. it.
