Opinions please

Post by Roland »

Opinions, including constructive criticism welcomed.

I am making a stocking. Originally I was told the name had 4 letters, which I could fit in this pattern.

Turns out they want the full name. How does this look?

It cannot be “centred” in a traditional sense because it’s curved. And I need to take into account, not just how many letters, but how wide each letter is.

I have not done the outline of the picture yet, AND the capital E was done with one thread and I didn’t like it so I switched to 2.

The name will be pulled out because I’m using a different colour. (I’m thinking a lighter blue with sparkles, but I’m open to suggestions.)

Two threads are definitely better. But if you moved the name over one space it will be centred (IMO). It’s very pretty.

I like your changes better Roland as they are more evenly placed and the name is now clearer than it was. I like the idea of a sparkly thread too so it is not 'lost' in the mass of colour of the main picture.
Good thinking with the amended effort.

Thanks.

For Christmas I got the 35 mouline etoile colours. I plan to use the white for the snowflakes, and one of the blues for the name. It’s kind of a mild sparkle....if that makes sense.

I was about to comment on the first pic and then scrolled down and saw your changes - a great improvement, really well-balanced!

The spacing in picture 2 looks great to me and I love the idea of the sparkly thread for the name and snowflakes! I have sometimes added a thread of Kreinik or Rainbow Gallery to add a little sparkle to a project. I can't wait to see it!

Agreed, that looks very well done. :applesauce:

How do you like the mouline? I haven't tried it yet.

It’s kind of a muted sparkle...if you know what I mean?

With regular DMC I cut thread about a yard and fold in half, as I use the loop method to start. With the mouline, I have to use shorter pieces. But overall, I do like it.
