I dont sell my stitchings, as I use them all as presents for family and friends' birthdays, anniversaries, etc. The day before yesterday I was at the threads and buttons shop looking for some bits and pieces I needed. The shop is tiny, so no rush hours there. I was the only buyer at that moment, and as the owner and the shop assistant know me for 12 years, we had a nice talk about stitching. Then the shop assistant took her smartphone, and showed me a richly cross stitched dress. "Could you stitch this for me?' I said, "Of course, not". "Why?"- "Because I am not sweet 16, so each minute of my life is getting more and more precious. Secondly, I am at work. Thirdly, no matter how much I would charge, I would feel underpaid, you would think I robbed you. Plus this dress would take me forever, why dont you go to professionals who stitch times faster?". The answer shocked me:"Because they would charge an arm and a leg". So, she was looking for a cheap stitcher to do the job which costs a fortune?!

The depressing thing there is that this lady really should know better - which means that yes, she does seem to just have been looking for a cheap stitcher :-(

I agree. People think that because we love to stitch, that we'd never refuse.

Lyudmila words fail me!! That lady just didn't realise just how much work and time it takes to stitch something beautiful.
Even stitching a simple greetings card takes an evening, plus the time to mount it properly.

 For giving her a snappy reply. I think I might have added that the dress she was proposing you make for her wouldn't suit her figure/shape!!

Wendy, she has an ideal figure, so the dress would suit her. But if I could, I would stitch a dress for my own daughter or granddaughter first , would I not? Or a decent cross stitched Ukrainian folk shirt for my dear self. Yes, sometimes I am selfish, at least in thoughts. :D
