It's an ill wind that blows nobody good

Post by Serinde »

Given the relentlessness of Covid-19, this is a thread for you to notice other things (mostly non-stitching or crafting-- perhaps keep those in Poppy's excellent thread or the S&G) that are, perhaps, an unexpected improvement.

For example, our neighbour's children have made dreamcatchers and bunting and attached them to the fence around their house. Really made me smile when I went for my daily constitutional yesterday. :D

Good idea, Serinde.

People around our neighbourhood have stuck paper rainbows on their windows. :rainbow:

We made our own household newspaper. It's uploaded to one drive with a shareable link and then family members can read about what's going on in our house and stay up to date with the little things they're missing out on such as the dog wearing a bolero like people. The price is 1 smile so the hope is they'll send her photos of them smiling.

Our field and garden are full of Spring Flowers!
Cowslips, Bee Orchids and Daisies.
Spring has come early to SW France this year. We have Nuthatch nesting in the old telegraph pole in holes made by the Woodpeckers! Iris flowers coming out, trees showing their spring colours and blossom.
So although we can't get out and about we have lovely views of Nature at it's best! :whoop: :applesauce:

Rainbows being put up around here as well - ours was drawn (with just a little bit of help from Mummy & Daddy) by our 8-month-old grandson Teddy and delivered to us before the lockdown. The blue smudges are his thumb prints :-)

Beautiful idea! The resourcefulness and ingenuity of people is really amazing. Neighbors checking with each other via texts, calls, FaceTime. I have seen more people offering help, appreciating the more simple things. I have house finches nesting in a freezer container outside my front door (long story for another time why there is a freezer container nailed to the underside of the outside entrance to the house). Rosey and I are keeping an eye on it through a front window. And the virus hasn't stopped daffodils and lillies from starting to peek out their heads. And the trees from blooming. Would have noticed it before, but I think its extra special right now.

Just now when my daughter dropped a package off for me, one of those baby house finches, fledged right in front of us. He flew right out of the freezer container, landed on the walkway and just looked around clearly surprised. We didn't converse very long (maintaining social distance) because we could hear the distraught parents. That means this is going to be a good day!!!

Mabel I love your rainbow - a treasure indeed. Downunder it is Teddy Bears being put into windows, or trees or all sorts of unexpected places by the school children. A lovely idea both of them.

Rainbows and bunting here; in England, I believe that parents in a housing estate were putting teddies in windows so that the children could have a teddybears picnic.

How wonderful to see the sun shining in the UK after all the floods! It is early morning and the birds are singing away....

Blue skies and bright sunshine for at least four days running, and lunch in the garden for the last two - we are blessed!
Also just Zoomed with two friends both living alone with whom I usually meet up for lunch at Sainsbury's on Thursdays, we had coffee "together" instead, it worked really well.

How wonderful to hear everyone applauding all the Key Workers from their opened windows ( Thursday at 8pm in the UK).

Indeed!

On our exercise walk this morning we saw some beautiful flowering trees, and were ignored by several alpacas:

I love those Alpacas!

Did anyone see the BBC web site where some Alpaca owners took their 'boys' to the local "Old Folks Home" for their exercise.
The look on those elderly residents was a joy to behold. There are some really thoughtful people about and I think it must have made the Residents and Staff feel a bit happier in their enforced confinement.
I put the link here in case you missed it!
