An I allowed to say that I prefer your butterfly...? Sarah's is, of course, beautiful. It is. I think I prefer the openness of your stitching choices. Amazing what a difference the choice of stitches makes. Lovely group of freebie designs. Very generous.

My choices were mostly determined by having to finish it in one (short) evening
What I like about it is that you can choose to stitch it very open or very dense, and both will make a lovely butterfly!

Just a little fun with a Sarah Homfray freebie and some rather too thick overdyed Vineyard silk - still a nice relaxing project, just what the doctor ordered in these unsettling times!

Re: Mabel's other stitching

Someone on the Mary Corbet Facebook group asked me about the stitches I’d used, so I made a diagram like I did for Percy the Parrot . The thread I used is Threadworx overdyed Vineyard silk and it’s really a bit too heavy for this size project, which is partly why my original plan for the stem didn’t work. Vineyard silk is two-ply, and the individual plies look rather like a very nice flat silk, so I started by separating the plies and working Palestrina stitch on the left-hand side of the stem, meaning to fill the whole stem with Palestrina, off-setting the knots in consecutive rows. Unfortunately the untwisted plies were not very stable and they kept fraying and breaking, so I had to go back to using the full two-ply silk, which was too thick for my Palestrina plan. Hence stem stitch :-)

The laced backstitch is very effective I think.

Yes, it's a nice quick way of adding both texture and colour.

That is awesome Mabel. I have sat here for several minutes just taking in all the different stitches and then the fabulous colours. You are a true artist with needle and thread that is for certain. :whoop: :whoop: :whoop: :whoop: :whoop:

A baby body suit to be embroidered for our grandson Teddy - so the meaning of the teddy is pretty obvious :-), and "Oma" means granny in Dutch.

This is such fun! Luckily you stitch quickly because babies grow at an alarming rate, and he'll be out of that body suit before you know it!

Should be fun. Maybe you could get Opa to embroider the other side and turn it into an heirloom piece (due to rarity value if nothing else!).

Regards,

Richard.

That is going to be so much fun! I hadn't thought about stitching designs for my almost here grand-nephew, but now you have got me thinking of possibilities for the future!

I'm finding stitching on clothing rather a challenge, what with having to get my hand in through the next or the bottom flap as best I can! It's also not very flat, but at least you can seewhat I've done so far.

I like this declaration of granny's love. The stitching will be beautiful. In fact it is already. And so neat. I also like stitching on clothes. Your stitching will make this suit so special.

I can imagine that it is kind of tricky to stitch , making sure that you are stitching on one layer only . It will be such a special little body suit for him
