If nothing disturbs me, I may finish crossstitching everything but the squirrels today. But after 10 hours of yesterday's stitching I am not sure my back will like the idea.

Mabel, dont tell my kids, but my heart has been hurting since yesterday morning. It wants fresh air and a long walk, and no balcony helps. And yes, I did it- finished everything but the squirrels and now am giving some rest to my back.

Rest up please! As my son is always telling me "Don't overdo it!!" As beautiful as it is, 10 hours at anything is a long time. Fresh air and a walk (maybe a short or medium walk if your heart is hurting is a better idea?). I am sure your back will be happy for a rest as well. The piece is beautiful!!

I so understand. Although we aren't in as strict a lockdown as you probably are, it still requires consideration to go out along, say, the West Highland Way, which loops around the village and is considered very much "in bounds". I don't walk there, simply because I know that the families with young children need it more than I do. I hate it that the children's playpark is off limits to them. And I'm lastingly grateful that I live in the countryside. Is the air clearer in Kiev then previously? "Glasgow's miles better", as they say. I have put your favourite drink behind the bar at the Stash & Grab.

Nancy, the saddest thing is that some demands are pure rubbish. Masks in a lonely street. All parks closed. People after 60 are not allowed to go out for the third moths in a row, while everybody knows that nothing kills better than a depression.

May I, please, give you a virtual hug, Lyudmila
Not going out at all for 3 months must be horrible. With such strict measures, I would like to think that the virus will be well under control and that the restrictions will be lifted soon where you are.

Also, you pointed out that my birthday gift from my husband was a kit by Luca S. It is a fabulous kit.
I do admire your colourful, perfectly stitched art work, Lyudmila. Thanks to you, I searched on line for Guelder Rose by Luca S and bought it.
Once, I received it, I will put it away so my family can gift it to me at Christmas.
Thank you for the inspiration. :)

Thank you for your kind words, Helene. When you have stitched the Guelder rose, you will see for yourself how fantastic that picture is. A simple bouquet-but it creates such an atmosphere! Maybe because there is more to it than just a bunch of leaves and fruits. Guelder rose (as well as weeping willows) is a plant symbol of Ukraine. We have a song which is considered a second, unofficial Anthem entitled "The Red Guelder Rose", the author of which lived in a village in our district. You can hardly find a garden in Western Ukraine(my native part of the country) without at least one bush of this beautiful plant.
The most interesting fact about this particular design is that Luca-S (whatever his real name) used a picture of a painter from St. Petersburg, but her watercolour had lots of dark gloomy shades. I did look at the original picture and would never fall for it. Luca-S removed the shades, made the design brighter and more transparent if you see what I mean, and now all my friends and colleagues either have it or want to have it up their walls.
Here is Elena Bazanova's picture:

And here is my stitching of Luca-S' design:

This was supposed to be stitched this summer.

But with the quarantine being continued all the time here, God knows when I will go and buy the special fabric for it. (Some things dont work on line, as you have to touch and to see the fabric for this rushnyk (towel) to make sure you are not being fooled and they are not selling you pure oil (synthetic) as home made evenweave).

Thank you, Sally, for your kind support. All that was stitched last night on the head and back of the poor squirrel has just been unpicked. If I go on like this, I dont know when I will finish it.

I know what you mean about being able to see and, importantly, touch the cloth. But golly, this is going to be a such a beautiful set when you've finished.

The Guelder Rose design is beautiful!
I have a recording of a song called Red Ruta (Chervona Ruta?) by the male vocal ensemble Orpheus - is that the one you mean? (My translation program says it's rue rather than a Guelder rose so it may be a different one)
