That is a gorgeous piece of work! What size is it, it's difficult to tell from the picture?

Thank you, Mabel. It is 1 metre x 53cm. Jan Woodman's book of charts "The Magic of the Forest in Cross Stitch and Watercolour" never fails. The tablerunner now looks full of sunshine, and the same coffee-with-milk Aida does not look dark at all. And the whole runner stirs memories of Australia.

My new project- Janlynn, "The Old Map"
Image
Roughly 50x40cm. 44 colours. No blends, but a few hectars of my "beloved" backstitch which here is a must and I will be doing it as I go.

Yes, I'm afraid the backstitch can't really be left out here - you must love the design very much to have chosen it in spite of that! Enjoy, and I think doing the backstitch as you go is a really sensible idea.

The table runner is wonderful, full of bright, lovely colours. You chose each motif perfectly, Lyudmila. The coffee-with-milk Aida ended up the right fabric for it :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:

Your new project will be a work of art. It won't be boring, though : so many interesting details to stitch!

After a day's work from the monitor, I have the right bottom corner and the guy's head, hat and blue coat, the grass under him, the tree behind his back. Stitched some "frame" to the left and up from the corner- I dont know how Janlynn does it, but the colours are already playing, attracting one's eyes and the picture already is getting "character" and "mood" if you see what I mean. I love it to bits- the chart, the threads and beads and the process of stitching.

The table runner is absolutely beautiful! And your new project is awesome. I have been tempted now and again to try some of the charts of old maps. There is something especially charming about them, I think. Sounds like you are making great progress. I can't wait to see it!

Thank you for your kind support and encouragement. Here is the latest WIP as of today:

The same old story: the Aida is 14ct snow white Zweighart, so you can imagine what the phone has done to the colours of the threads. In reality it does look well worth stitching.

You have made a grand start Lyudmyla. It is sad that phones and even cameras do change the colours some more than others of course. I am sure it will look magnificent when done.mm :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:

This looks beautiful already. I think we are all pretty used to what the camera (or smart phone) does to colors. I used to be shocked sometimes when my husband took a photo of one of his paintings inside the house and then outside in daylight. The difference could be astounding.

I love this design and am looking forward to your updates!

As you must have guessed, my true love is Janlynn. I see them as the top perfection of designs. Plus the designs I stitched (and am stitching) have a soul, if you see what I mean. They create an atmosphere. They make this world better. And when I stitch this map with 47 colours all in all and actually no blends(1- with a golden thread), I love it to bits, back stitch and all.

I am absolutely amazed how quickly you have stitched the circles and the first character!
This is a special project and have so many different details and subjects that we will have a great time seeing grow too!

Great start and so nice that it has many "little projects" within the large project that you can have a sense of completion about!

This is an amazing design and a great start. I know what you mean about the backstitch, I always seem to pick kits or patterns that have lots and I hate it. still it brings the design to life.
