Things are crazy just about everywhere. Our numbers are super high, but not as high as other states. Still...if people would just wear masks, wash hands, social distance. I understand people are “suffering” from quarantine fatigue, but COVID patients and health care workers are truly suffering. I was chatting (outside, with mask, socially distanced) with a neighbor and he said it all comes down to the R word: Respect. If everyone would put aside their own self importance and respect those around them, we could at least get the numbers under control while waiting for the vaccine.

As I said somewhere else, I'm sure people were suffering from "war fatigue" in 1916 and 1942 - that didn't mean the war conveniently went away. It's all very well to say "we've been missing out on things for so long we deserve a bit of relief" but the virus doesn't care about that. We've got the vaccines now, there's an end in sight, so let's hang in there :grouphug: !

I agree with Debby and Mabel and don't understand why it is so impossible for masks. Our numbers, like I said before, are going up. Our governor who isn't the most independent member of his party (won't go any further into politics, I promise) is really pushing and practically begging for people to wear masks, socially distance and not have huge family/friend gatherings for Christmas. We are starting to really see the results from some of the Thanksgiving celebrations that have been held. And he has made it clear that in the cities and towns and villages in our state that have enacted mask ordinances, the numbers of Covid cases are significantly lower than those which have not. Fortunately, I live in one of those villages with a mask mandate but still our numbers are way too high. There are so many examples of countries that have not just enacted different mandates to prevent the spread, but have citizens who respect each other enough to cooperate and to protect each other.

I've just heard my eldest aunt in The Netherlands has been taken into hospital and is not expected to live very long. My other aunt, who is a sort of second mother to me, has looked after her for several years now, and this is her last surviving sister. Unfortunately I can't go over there even for the funeral because even at the moment the quarantine rules would make it impossible (Dutch funerals have to be within 6 working days of the death, and quarantine is 10 days), and the Netherlands are about to enter a strict lockdown again because of rising Corona numbers

Oh, Mabel, I'm so sorry you can't be there to support your aunt. I understand what that's like, but you'd be there if you could, and they will both understand that. Blasted Covid.

I completely agree. This, like so many other things, is beyond our control. I'm sure that your other aunt can feel the love and support you are sending her. and will add :tantrum: for that :x Blasted Covid.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh no Mabel, I am so sorry to read this, it's a horrible situation and my heart goes out to you.

I am sure your other Aunt can feel the love and support too, she will know you are with her in spirit.

I will light a candle tonight for both your Aunts and keep you in my thoughts and prayers also.

Thank you all. Situation slightly complicated by the fact that neither aunt does computers of any kind, so it's the good old telephone (of the type firmly rooted in one spot, in her case). I've sent her some printed photographs with the Christmas card. Both aunts are women of faith, and eldest aunt has said she would be quite glad to slip away to the Lord in her sleep, so really that's what we're praying for.

A sad situation. I know very well that no words help, but as Ukrainians say, Dont eat yourself as there is nothing you can do under the circumstances.
I will also keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

My aunt died very early this morning, very peacefully in her sleep. They hadn't even given her the stronger morphine yet, so it was her natural time to go. My other aunt was with her and held her hand. Thank you for your prayers and candles and good thoughts, this was just what we had most wished for.

Oh Mabel, I am so sorry for your loss, even though it was the expected outcome and the most peaceful way for her, I still send my condolences to you and your other aunt.

Know you and your other aunt are still in my thoughts and prayers.

Another candle will be lit tonight for your aunt.
