So sorry for my absence

Post by karen4bells »

What can I say, it's just been a lot going on in my life these past few months. Topmost being dealing with the loss of my husband last mother's day---just about coming to terms with that now, but fully doubt that it will ever not be a tough thing to deal with. Still working on paperwork--should have the final things wrapped up within the next couple of weeks. Now it's tax time, which will be a royal pain--taking that to a tax service for this year at least--far too many things to deal with myself. Still decluttering and getting ready to do a few major things to the house, especially need a new roof and a few other things. Thank goodness our younger son lives here and has truly been a major help through everything.
January 8th my mother passed away at the age of 86, from dementia and alzheimer's. Due to there being an upsurge of Covid during that time, I wasn't able to travel from here to Illinois to see her before her passing or for her funeral. I know that she is at peace now, but boy oh boy do I miss talking to her on the phone!! I don't know how many times I have the urge to call her and then remember, no, that isn't possible.
I have been busy stitching on and off, and will eventually post a picture or two of what I have done--just need to remember how postimage works :P

Carole, thanks for sending me an email today, I think it's just the push I needed to log in and post an update. I have been visiting the site from time to time but just wasn't able to force myself to log in and post.

Anyway, I will try and visit more regularly now!!!

Oh, no need for apologies, and my heart goes out to you. A terrible double blow, just made worse by Covid (blast it). Don't feel you have to post here unless it helps (and it might, who knows). Giving the tax stuff to an adviser is an excellent idea and takes one thing off your plate. I hope all the paperwork is wrapped up soon. Do take as much care of yourself as you can, and bless that boy.

My sincere sympathy love and prayers go out to you as you get to grips with the recent sad events. Having quite recently dealt with a close family death I can understand the silence on the CSF and I applaud your handing the tax stuff to an expert - it is the easiest and best way to deal with all the paperwork. Hang in there it does get easier as the years go by. :rainbow:

Karen I am so sorry for your double loss - missing those two very important people in your life will never go away, but I pray that the good memories will help and comfort you. And that the paperwork (why is there always such a lot of paperwork?) will go smoothly.

The email wasn’t meant to be a push, but to let you know how worried I was. And knowing what you have been coping with and how, hard that is. First time I took my taxes to an accountant was the year my husband died. And had some house issues as well. I spent a day walking around the house so angry at him for leaving me to deal with a leaking hot water heater. Thank god that your son is there to help you and support you. You don’t have to apologize for taking time from here, but if there is any way to give you support let us and me know. :grouphug:

Thank you for the condolences, it's definitely been a harrowing past few months, but hopefully I am starting to emerge from the tunnel. Thank goodness that yes, there are so very many great memories that it makes my sons and I all get through the losses.

Carole, I truly needed your nudge--I kept meaning to pop in and post but sadly didn't until yesterday, so thank you!!

I do have some happy news--after being without a pet in the household for a couple of years, I made the decision to actively look for a new bird. I had owned birds for roughly thirty years, until the most recent one passed away a couple of years ago. By that time, hubby was starting his treatments for Melanoma and it just wasn't a great time to add a new pet to the mix. After much research and studying up on the many smaller pet birds I narrowed it down to a small conure or a quaker parakeet. Finally found one that was pretty affordable and took the plunge. Son and I brought it home Nov. 17th and well it has settled in quite nicely. I still have to have it DNA tested to determine if it is male or female, but for now we both assume it's a male. It's a Black Capped Conure about 8 months old now and temporarily named Birda

Quite a character and truly a blessing--gives both of us the chance to forget some of the stresses.

Carole, like you I have days, many of them where I get mad at dearly departed hubby, especially when the repairs are needed. I still need to get another dumpster out to get rid of more stuff, collected mostly by hubby over the past three decades or longer!! I swear, the man never threw anything out, if I didn't know better. You never know it could come in handy somewhere down the line!! Need to replace the patio slider door to outside, and replace the house and carport roofs!! Never ending, but it will get done.
