Re: Sarah's next project - Celestial sun, moon and stars
Here's the next installment after Tuesday night's stitching. I'm getting lots of time to do this as Simon is designing a website at the moment, so he works on the computer all evening and I stitch.

Re: Sarah's next project - Celestial sun, moon and stars
Here's the next update after Wednesday night's stitching - I did some more of the sun, but then had to leave it as - would you believe it, this is a kit - one of the dark gold colours you need only provided one length of 6 strand cotton, and you need LOADS of it for the sun and the border - so I've nearly run out. The threads are labelled as "RYC stranded cotton" - well the kit does come from China. Anyway, I matched some of the colours with my bobbins and found they're almost identical to DMC ones - PHEW! Typically, the offending colour is DMC 781 and what's in my bobbin box? 780 and 782. Hahaha. Fortunately I have two days off work now so I shall pop along to the local store this morning to grab a skein.
In the meantime, I started stitching "Scorpio" to the right.

It's looking great! You are moving so much more quickly on it than I was.
I am horrible at French knots... one of the reasons it was so easy for me to get distracted from this project. Have you thought of beading it?

Re: Sarah's next project - Celestial sun, moon and stars
Thanks everyone. Amanda, I had thought of using beads instead of French knots - I'm not bad at French knots, but I hate doing them - but I'm leaving those till last anyway. For the moment I'm just doing the crosses and half crosses, leaving most of the backstitch until last. Then I'll decide - knots or beads. I've been stitching quite a lot today as I've been at home, so I'll post another picture later.
I managed to get the missing DMC 781 and then realised it was actually labelled 781 (782) and is actually the same as the 782 I already have.
Never mind, at least I've plenty of it now. It's a fraction of a shade different from RYC 781 so I thought where the colour is used in the border and I've done part of that already, I'd do the next section of border with one strand RYC and one strand DMC and then when I've completely run out of RYC and change to 2 strands DMC, you shouldn't be able to see the difference. Here's hoping!

Here it is after having Thursday off work! Scorpio finished, sun almost finished, added a comet and started on Cancer the crab. The end of my finger is full of holes, hahaha. I never could get on with a thimble.

This is just speeding by. I am so impressed with the speed you are able to stitch. I am very jealous. Quite a talent you have.
