Jewellery making

Post by Sarah Gixxer »

This is another of my hobbies, which I only started around New Year this year. Originally it was just a bit of fun as I'd seen a bead working magazine in the newsagent and fancied having a go, but I've ended up selling quite a few pieces to friends and family so thought it might be worth building a website to sell some. My Mum is also doing a craft fayre next month and is going to put some of my bracelets and things on her stall so hopefully she might make me a few pounds to go stash shopping!

Here are a couple of piccies - a hand bag charm.......

It is also one of my passions but I a bit put aside it because of embroidering...

Wow, lovely. I used to do a lot of jewellery making and moved on to importing raw materials (Bali Sterling Silver and semi-precious beads) on Ebay but it is so competitive it's hard to make a decent profit. I particularly love how you have properly "wrapped" the beads on to the wire rather than just a quick twist as you sometimes find. If you can wrap them like that, you could make some seriously gorgeous charm bracelet with accent beads. These were my particular favourites to make.

Thanks, everyone! Hopefully I will make some money out of them. I have about 20 bracelets now, around 10 keyrings and bag charms and am starting on some necklaces. My Mum will be selling them at a fair at the end of this month. She's already sold half a dozen pieces for me, so fingers crossed - the extra cash will come in handy for Christmas. And stash!

I don't think you will have trouble selling those they look like they have been made professionally, you have done a great job. Good luck

Thank you, they don't take all that long. Bracelets and necklaces take about 15 minutes to put together when I've decided on the design, keyrings about the same. The bag charm take about half an hour as there are a lot of beads to "wrap" on those! Simon's just putting the finishing touches to my website so I'll be onlien by tomorrow! Yay!

I like all your designs, and especially the bracelet. I have a pal who makes jewellery, and her bead stash and such is an Aladdin's cave of goodies.

These look lovely! Well done. I have many crafts that I also do, and jelellery making is one of them.. Was making some things to put on sale for xmas but due to me throwing my self at it full force... I have given myself Tendonitis (think thats how you spell it!?) The physio told me I'm not allowed to do anything for at least 3 weeks! So down goes my christmas selling for this year.
