kerbear879's WIP - HAED Chessie *Updated 1/21/10*

Post by kerbear879 »

All this talk of HAED projects lately has inspired me to start mine now too. This one is Chessie Cat by Ash Evans. I've decided to go with a 22ct evenweave from balkan gallery since it comes pre-gridded. I really don't have any desire to grid my own stuff so I thought this would work best since these charts are rather detailed. The fabric is ordered but I probably won't get it for a week and still have to get some threads for this one. I'm hoping with three projects going now, I shouldn't get bored with any which one.

This will be interesting to watch.
At least if the fabric is pre gridded you know you haven't counted wrong!!

Yep exactly my logic too! Besides they tell you to do these on 25ct. But I am already hard of seeing. 22ct will probably be about as small as I can go without getting a magnifying glass!

Well I'd really be interested to know how you find using it. One of the things that puts me off doing a large complicated chart is having to pre grid the fabric, cos I'm pretty certain I'd mess it up.

That's a neat design.

Must confess though, when I looked at the thread title I thought of the original 'Chessie' -- the logo for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Company.

We have a family friend who loves the 'Chessie'. I had to make a pic of one to put on his birthday cake last year.

This will look fantastic. Out of interest, what is the stitch count for this one???

(I'm using 22ct for my HAED and that is small enough, believe me   )

Nicgoss - The stitch count is 350 x 258 which would mean 90,300 stitches which is still huge but still smaller than some of the other HAED designs I've seen. It also has 50 different colors which isn't too bad.

I finally got the fabric for this project. I love that it's pregridded but I am retarded when it comes to 22ct. :( The smallest count I've ever worked on was 18ct and I think I may just be blind or something. I kept accidently stitching in the wrong holes and after an hour I put it down because I was getting frustrated. It's looking good but it's definitely going to take me a little while to get used to it. I'll post a pic here soon.

Have you thought of maybe getting a magnifying glass, one that could clip on your hoop/frame or maybe even one you can wear on the neck. It might help you out a bit. :?

I'm looking forward to seeing this one. :D

It is true that evenweave is alot different from aida. What Mabel did with me was start me on 18ct evenweave as this is the sort of size you are used to looking at, while still getting you used to evenweaves, then it's a bit easier to progress to a higher count like 22 because you are used to looking at evenweave already.
Well, it worked with me anyhow.

You know that makes sense threadbear. Evenweave is definitely different than aida. I just found myself skipping over holes. The fabric is really soft too and it won't stay as tight as I would like it on the qsnap. I'm just going to have to play around with it for awhile until I get it the way I like it. But I did manage about 100 stitches before I got fed up. So 100 here and there..and well then maybe I'll finish this when I'm 60. :P

I use a daylight lamp with a magnifier myself, and wouldn't be without it!
