rust marks

Can anyone help with ideas on how to remove rust marks from aida. My sister has given me over her stitching to finish but when she removed it from the scroll frame the staples from the frame have left marks along the bottom and top of the aida.
I've tried soap, stain devils, lemon juice but can't get the marks out, I'm concerned the marks will be visible when I go to frame it.
It's L&L's Sweet Dreams, so it's quite a bit piece, i'd hate to finish it (i will some day!) and it will be marked.

Thats a real shame, I don't know if it would be worth trying vanish on it, I find it good for loads os stains but havn't tried it on rust. Also it depends on how near the marks are to the stitching, you will have to be really careful, sorry I am not much help but good luck with it.

Have you tried oxyclean? That might work. Also it's possible that oxalic acid will work. It would bind with with iron. Try it on the edge first though.

I had a problem with a rust mark from a dodgy hoop, Vanish got rid of some of the lesser marks, but I had to stitch over the rest by adapting the pattern a bit. Also, where the vanish came into contact with the existing stitches it caused the thread to fade, I did not apply it directly to the stitching either, it just crept into them when I rinsed it, so be very careful, best of luck

I'd like to know of a effective answer to this as well! I have never been able to get rid of rust marks,

As to the current pic, careful framing could cover the problem. Maybe use a mount in the frame, to cover the extreme edges of the pic?

I do second the idea of creative matting. The first counted cross stitch I made was for my grandparents 50th anniversary. When my grandmother passed away the piece came back to me. I had taken it out of it's frame with the intent to have it cleaned amd then reframed when my chewie puppy, Lila, chewed on it. She managed to get through the corner and a bit of the stitching. I took it to my framer, explaining the issue and Reba assured me that we could reframe and remat and no one would be the wiser. I"m sure Mom would notice the difference but it looks great.

Well, I've tried Vanish and a bio oxy cleaner spray on the rust marks on my material, but no luck, so I guess I'll just have to be creative and frame quite close to the stitching.
I've thrown the roller frame bars away which made the marks,I'm taking no more chances!!

It's such a shame you cant remove it, but at least you gave it a good try. Hope the framing sorts the problem out for you.

I'm sorry the cleaning didn't work, but I'm sure it won't show when you've framed it.
