Mabel, I'm not sure what kind of edging it is. It's some kind of linen banding that was in the kit. Might be part of how it was woven? For the hemming on both ends I totally cheated and used a double sided fusible hemming tape thing. I don't like sewing - neither hand nor machine. Weird, huh?

No, just clever :-). Thanks for the information, I thought the sides were also hemmed by the stitcher.
