I was showing a friend my afghan yesterday and when I laid it out I realized that my new character was in the wrong place
One block too far. Which would throw everything off.
I actually had stitched even more (this photo is the one I took Monday evening. I take one at the end of each day to get a sense of progress). Because this one is in between two of the blocks there is a lot more stitching to go over the loosely woven parts which thankfully I had stitched practically nothing on yet. So after my friend left I spent the evening carefully snipping and pulling threads out.

is an understatement. I think this may have been the biggest one I've ever done. Probably because if it hadn't been on the afghan, I would have tossed the fabric away and just started over (been there, done that), but not an option.
Star Wars fans might be able to identify the character from what I've done. So I washed the grid lines off last night and will start again today.

and am actually glad that I hadn't gotten any further along or I'd be not just going

and

at myself but
Thanks for looking and listening. To be continued...
Carole

Commiserations on starting the the wrong place. It is always best to find it earlier than later and especially before you add any metallics
Once the

is over so long as it has not left any noticeable marks then it is quickly forgotten

Thank you Jo. I think once I get back to where I was it will feel like progress instead of a restart. As far as I can tell, the grid washed out perfectly like its supposed to. And fortunately there aren't any metallics in these designs. That is one scary thought! and something to be thankful for.

I agree!! What a pain it is to have to undo, but at least you did catch it before you were further along on this one

I am so happy to be sharing these photos with all of you!
It was a pain, but in the long run it turned out fine:
What made this one more difficult than the others is that the section of the more loosely woven fabric that needed to be stitched went straight down the middle of the figure. I've done that often before with other afghans, but its been a while and I had forgotten. Still I think she looks good and I'm sure is very easy to figure out.
I'm almost done stitching the next one also. I expect he (hint, but it pretty obvious its a he) is also easy to identify for Star Wars geeks especially.
As always, thank you for looking.

Brilliant stitching on a wonderful project. Glad you managed to rescue it. I am not into star wars so don't recognise the characters.

Oh my goodness, Carole you have been busy.
Well done figuring out how to do the tricky stitching on the looser woven bits, I would not have bern able to tell if you hadn't mentioned it, she looks great and very even to my eye.
The other character is so beautifully stitched too, sorry I have no idea who they are, but I still appreciate the work that has gone into stitching each and every character.
It will definitely be cherished by whoever receives it.

Absolutely right. I think when the back stitch gets done there is a closer resemblance to Poe than to some of the others. I love the way these characters have been designed. It’s been a lot of fun, even if I’m stitching on an Afghan when it’s 95+F (35+C) outside and I have a grumpy cat who wants her catio open and the back door open to the screen so she can soak up the heat through her black fur.

The cross stitching for Poe Cameron is done. Back stitch starting today.
And does anyone recognize my previous figure:

I can give a hint if necessary
Thank you for all your encouraging comments.

Wow Carole, your needle must be turbo charged!
Still no idea who they are (sorry, not a Star Wars fan, now if it was Lord of The Rings - oooh just imagine

)
Beautiful stitching, so neat and even.
Well done.

I do believe you are right! It's been stitching these 3 from the last 3 episodes. Which I watched again while I was stitching!

Perfect way of doing things! It's all looking grand as always with your stitching. (I lost track of Star Wars a while ago, so not familiar with new characters.)

Brilliant, I am another not familiar with these characters but it doesn't stop me appreciating all the work that is going into this afghan.

Lovely work.
I recognized Rey but not the other character. I’m more into the original 3.
