It's coming on nicely. And compared to me, you're a super speedy stitcher

Slow or fast - what does it matter so long as you enjoy it?

Anyway, it's looking great - and have a great holiday, too!

I love these maps. And if anyone is by Bassenthwaite Lake, I highly recommend the Pheasant Inn. They believe in clean rooms and rum butter. yum!

Re: Map of the Lakes - FINISHED! 18th October 2010

My first finish on the forum!
(Needs washing and ironing yet but I was so excited that I'd finished!)
I meant to post an update when I got back from my holiday but didn't have time for the first week, and when I looked at it I thought "I can get this done". I'd finished all the individual motifs and just had the border, backstitching and French knots to do.
My big thanks go to Elle on here (already thanked on another thread but worth repeating here!). I was planning to replace the French knots with seed beads as I've been unable to do French knots for years. I could do them when I was younger - I have an embroidery I did when I was about 11 or 12 and there are LOADS on them and I know I didn't have any help with that, but since I started stitching again, about 15 years ago, I've just had this mental block with them.
Anyway, Elle posted a video from another site with a demonstration of how to do them and something just clicked and I figured it out. Sounds like such a small, silly thing, I know, but in a way, the French knots are more of an achievement for me just now because they've been such a long time coming!
This is a present for my grandma, aged 96 and still going strong, who, along with my grandpa, was the person who inspired a love of the Lake District in me and who I still ring every time I get to the top of another mountain so that she can help me admire the view!
