Here is an updated pic of the Frog:

I switched the letters to DMC Variations 4040, but I still don't think they stand out very well. I'm thinking backstitching (either in black, or the darkest color of the variegated floss) will help, or should I just pull them (for the 3rd time) and use the same green I did the frog in?

Yeah, the problem with these variations is that they go very light as well as the darker colours. I vote for outlinging is green. I did my assissi bookmark in the blue and it stood out as much as this (not enough), but then I outlined in the darkest shade and it worked beautifully.

I would go with a very dark dark green.

Thank you Angel and Rose. I will give outlining in the darkest shade a shot and see if it helps.

What a fun idea! The frog is so cute and I love the fabric. Can't wait to see it finished.

Thank you Lilia and Sarah.
Here is an updated picture using the new floss for the words (4120). I have set this aside to work on the card.
I really like the way it looks. Thank you all again for your assistance, I really appreciate it

Here is where the frog stands, I am hoping to finish it tomorrow.
This pic shows the floss colors more clearly, though I haven't been able to get a single picture that shows the fabric and floss accurately or even close to it.

Isn't that infuriating? But it looks great even so!
