Another one

- for a dear friend from church who died shortly after his 90th birthday; this is for his widow, also a much-loved friend.

For various reasons I couldn't take Hengest to Library Craft group, so I made a start on a Hardanger piece on that gorgeous fuchsia hand-dyed fabric I got for Stashmas. It's a white-on-colour version of
Cross My Heart which was originally designed for overdyed threads on white

And the start of a little tree based on a logo I saw on a shopping bag (I asked the logo's owners for permission, and they were happy for me to do with it whatever I wanted

)

I really don't know how you do it Mabel. All those fabulous designs just seem to tumble out of your thoughts through your fingers and onto fabric so effortlessly. I love the tree design especially.

A little in-between project - New Home card for a niece and nephew-in-law. It's designed to fit into a card with a 50mm square aperture, so quite small, but within it I do want to get the teeny representation of Susie to recognisably wear the purple top and fuchsia scarf sh is wearing in the picture they sent us of them by the new house. This may be challenging....

What a unique card this will be. Love the colours chosen. Look forward to seeing it again.

Oh now! Wow! Love that tree!
The little house project looks fun...I'm sure that you'll get the Purple top and scarf in OK. If anyone can it'll be You, Mabel!!

Now this looks a fun project Mabel
As others have said if anyone can squeeze the little figures in you can.

We have faith in our Mabel.
By the way what colour(s) will the leaves be on that gorgeous little tree?
Oh and I promise I will get around to stitching the little garden cards
one day.....

I've just had an idea for the roof as well - theirs isn't thatched, but hey, I want to see whether padded buttonhole would make a convincing thatch (and the rest of the house doesn't look like their either anyway

)
The leaves on the little tree will be double seed stitch in three shades of muted green, probably blended but I'll have to see whether that works on this small scale.
Garnet, the gardens, being fabric and thread, will keep - no weeds will grow if you don't stitch them immediately

!

I am sure it will be a work or art when you are finished with it and got it mounted. Maybe around the aperture of the card you could draw 2 ines of the colours you want to include. Just a thought.

Yup, I think padded buttonhole works as a thatched roof

. My first attempt is a bit asymmetrical in the buttonholing, so I compensated with the crooked light yellow stitches

and I hereby apologise to any thatcher out there, as they always do a beautifully even and regular job. Still, I got the effect I wanted!
The first pic shows the underlying stem stitch, the second the buttonholing, the third and fourth the added light yellow and the raised effect.

As always your pictures are so clear. Excellent thatch!
I love the 'build up' to the final thatched roof.

Not sure how many Thatchers do cross stitch or embroidery, but I'm sure that they will appreciate your artistic slant on a Thatched Roof!

"slant" is exactly right
