Request for those that knit
A few years ago, I was at a craft fair and bought a few kitchen scrubbies. Well, those things wore like iron and my last one is about to its end. But I looooove them.. have no idea who I bought them from and haven't seen any at craft fairs I have been to lately.
Any of you knitters know how to make them? Could I trade stash or buy them outright from you? The ones I have are circular, maybe 2" diameter, and made of some sort of scratchy plastic "yarn". They could be crocheted.. really, I have no idea of the technique and cannot really follow the stitch pattern becuase its a bunch of loops going every which direction.

Suspect it might be something like I have at home. Not really worth your while to knit it yourself. I buy mine at the hardware store, why not try there

Could you upload a picture? I make my own dish scrubbies and couldn't do without them now!

Ok, so it took me a while to actually remember to take a photo of my dying kitchen scrubbie.. I am usually on this site while I should be working during the day.. and I forget by the time I get home.
But here she is.. It is a bit bigger than I thought.. a little smaller than a CD. The last photo is and untwisted "thread". Its scratchy.. I use it to clean my pots and pans.

Hello Hello,
I think that pattern might be crocheted? and that's kindof nice because it makes up soooooooo quickly.
Check out this site. MyRecycledBags.com. and in it there is a free pattern for 'Cute Scrubbie and Dishcloth Kitchen Set posted on March 30, 2009.
For the scratchy more abrasive feel for better cleaning, I've used that plastic (or whatever material it is) netted bag that some oranges, or potatoes, or onions etc. are still packed in occasionally. It seems close to the netting I see in your photo and that I have noticed those cute bath scrunchies are made with also.
Pair the netting with a strand of yarn and it'll work up nicely.
Do you know how to crochet? This would be suitable for a beginner.

Oh that link is fantastic.. it even tells me what the "yarn" is.. never would have thought it was tulle cut into strips.
Thank you so much

Hi: I am a new member and I have a pattern for your scrubbie. It is crocheted of Nylon Netting cut in strips. If you like I can look it up and send you a copy of the pattern and you could make your own.

my grandmother's friend makes a very similar scrubbie... her pattern is for crochet and uses recycled plastic bags. I will try to get more info for you if it is useful.

Just saying that that "yarn" looks a lot like those bath sponge thingys that you can get pretty cheap at walmart...ya know the bath poufs? maybe worth a try to try one of those? cheaper and quick too!

Re: Request for those that knit
Thanks everyone for your help
I found someone who made these when I was at a craft fair a few weeks ago. I bought 5 of them.. I should be good for a while.
The netting is different than the bath poofs. Those are too soft. These are more like a Scotch Brite pad... itchy scratchy but perfect for pots and pans.

Glad you were able to find more! My guess is that they were made from strips of nylon netting. It is stiffer than tulle. We've used it to cover grapes to keep the birds away.
