Conversion

Post by corby_stitcher »

Hello and sorry if this is a silly question to ask. But is ther an easy way to convert a chart which is surposed to be stitched on 16 count aida to 14 count aida. What i want to know is if the 16 count chart needs for example a piece of aida 160 cms x 60 cms, what size 14 count will i need?

You need to work in inches rather than centimetres. 16ct fabric has 16 cross stitches per inch and 14ct has 14 stitches per inch.

For example if you stitch a design which has a worked area of 12 x 12 inches on 16 count, in stitches it would measure 192 x 192 stitches.

To work out its size on 14 count fabric, divide 192 stitches by 14, ie the stitched area will measure 13.7 x 13.7 inches.

On the info you gave I'm guessing your chart (on 16 count) in stitches are roughly 1008 x 378 stitches? (which should be 160,02 cm x 59,99cm) Please correct if the stitches are way off (should say on chart)..

On 14 count 1008 x 378 stitches is roughly 183cm x 69cm (182,88cm x 68,58cm)

(Think you know this already :) just saying, the cm measurement are excluding the margine, it's only the stitchign area. Remember to calculate a margine, i.e. the fabric is usually a little larger than just the stitching area)
