Crocheting or cross stitching

Post by talenaya »

It's been awhile since I've been crocheting but since my niece wants a blanket and I sprained my ankle (going go tomorrow to make sure it's just that and not a fracture) I've been rocking in my recliner with a basket of yarn on one side and a reusable shopping bag of cross stitch in the other.

Yesterday I was cross stitching but my arm starting complaining because I have a frame but not a stand for it. Today I've been crocheting and I now remember why I first started to do it.

If I had a floor stand I would have to say I prefer cross stitching but also I found keeping the pattern counts for crocheting really relaxing but then I tend not to hear people when they are trying to talk to me. :D

Which do you prefer?

I actually enjoy both of them for very different reasons but I don't think I could chose one over the other. They both give me loads of pleasure and also loads of gifts to give. :D

I enjoy both of them as well. I crochet when I have small amounts of time.

crochet and knitting are very relaxing due to repetitive movements for longer periods of time.

I prefer cross stitching but love to knit or crochet occasionally as a change.

Haven't crocheted for some time but I think I'll get it out again over the winter, when I've finished any stitching with a deadline and am only stitching to please myself :-)

I hate stitching on deadlines. I took a long break from crocheting after having to constantly make baby blankets in the colors of pink, purple, and yellow. Mostly purple and yellow. The bright side of it was that most of them were commissions after my friend showed off the one I made for her and the people that wanted them paid well for them. I originally was going to charge $50 to $60 for them but the one lady agreed with my friend Rose about handmade products so I was making $80 to $100 on a blanket but it wasn't relaxing anymore.

I love cross stitching, but I dearly love crochet also. I've been a stitcher since the early 90's, but have crocheted since I was a child. I was never very accomplished in crochet so about 18 months ago, I decided that I would learn to read patterns better and to learn thread crochet. I've accomplished those goals and now I'm ready to resume cross stitch as a regular hobby as well.

okay okay. All these posts over the past months about the joys of crochet have got me. One of these days I'll dig out the box of crochet stuff that has been stored (with everything else imaginable) under the stairs. It will be nice to do some again. Maybe now that I have a good magnifier for cross stitch I can do fine doilies again. I love doing them and doing cross stitch has made me see that I can copy and mark a pattern! Keeping my place on some patterns was my biggest problem apart from being able to see the small stitches.

Thanks for the reminders of a much loved hobby.

Keeping my place in a crochet pattern is a challenge for me. The afghan I'm just finishing was like that. If I put it down for a few days, I would really get confused. It has been my most challenging project ever, but I do love it!

i know very little about crochet but i like lace crochet, i can afford buying lace for my DIy projects as they are so expensive in France.
I only have crochet threads size 10 and 20. But for lace crocheting, size 10 and 20 still not thin enough for me.

It's been a rather long time since I last crocheted anything, but from what I can vaguely remember of it, I did enjoy it... but apparently I prefer cross stitching far more to it, seeing as how once I went to stitch, I never looked back.
