New look CrossStitcher Magazine...

Post by kell »

Anyone seen the latest issue of CrossStitcher magazine with its "new look" and new layout

I'm afraid I'm not impressed with the new look. I don't think there were more than a couple of little motifs that I actually liked and am likely to stitch - the rest I thought plain ugly! Didn't think much of the layout for the letters pages and the marketplace page looks strangely empty with big spaces round the edges. Definitely disappointed and don't think I'll be shelling out £3.99 for another issue unless there's a specific project shown on the front cover that I absolutely love. I had been planning on subscribing in the New Year with some of my Xmas money, but I won't be bothering now. :(

Anyone seen it and liked it? Or hated it?

It will be awhile before I get to see it, but I'm curious! Unfortunately the CrossStitcher magazines are always in plastic here so if I really want a peek I'll have to buy it first

Hi Kell,

I have a subscription, and saw the email yesterday. Usually I get the magazine about 10 days after I get the email so mine wont come till the end of next week but i did not like the front cover and so am wondering what it will be like. I will post back when mine comes.

Also, I think the price went up last issue to 4.99 pounds..thats what it says on the last issue front cover. I took my suibscription out back in August so started with the september issue.

Anyway, I looked at the subscription prices and they have gone up from 65 pounds a year for overseas to 85 pounds for a year  since then so, not sure if will be renewing it. Probably not at that price even though that is still cheaper than the shop price.

I ended up taking out a woxs subscription last week as the exchange rate is very good and that was 51 pounds for 12 months so i started it from issue 171 as i did not want another xmas one this year as i am getting the cross stitcher one...and that way i''ll get an xmas issue next year.

It did, but it's back down to £3.99 this issue, so I'm wondering why it was up last time.

Was it the christmas issue, because it only has an issue number but not the month on it. And they always charge more for the christmas one.

I have it and I really dont like it for the same reasons as Kell. I dont think it has a single thing I would like to stitch (oh apart for Margaret Sherrys Halloween Cat, but even thats not worth the £3.99) its mostly small motifs type things. The free gift was not very good at all and I cant see me making it up ever. My favorite bit is usually the letters page but it appears to be made up of projects from other issues of Cross Stitcher :( Next issue doesnt seem any better either :(

I have a sub for it - wish it was for XC collection! I'm not too fussed on the new look - and I get really fed up with the endless christmas stuff - is 3/4 months of it enough??? Grrrr. There is a dog, but its a terrier and I have no interest in them.

The Margaret Sherry mice are nice though!

You never know what you are going to stitch in the future, which is why I keep most things, but honestly I am somewhat disappointed in it this month.

I also subscribe and I really don't like it at all. :( It's called 'Crossstitcher' but I thought it was more like a general needlework mag. I had intented to email and tell them how disappointed I am with it, I thought I would get the next issue to see what that is like and then I think I will cancel my subscription. Glad to see I am not the only one who dislikes it

I, too, have a sub for it - started Aug - and I, too, don't like the 'new look'. I daresay we will get used to it, but frankly, I'm regretting I didn't subscribe to WOXS instead.

The reason I didn't was cos everytime I checked out WOXS, the subscription gift on offer was something I didn't want, but I did want the Cross Stitcher sub gift (lots of thread!). Ah, well. I shall probably cancel sub when it runs out, and get a mag I like better even if I don't care much for the sub gift! Mind you, the only reason to get a sub, really, is for the sub gift... so maybe I won't bother at all!

overseas susbcriptions dont have that dilemma since we dont get a subscription gift..just the free one that comes with the mag.

so, if the price has not gone up..why the 20 pound jump in opverseas subscriptions..so glad i took woxs out now because i wont renew it at the new price even if the exchange rate is still good!

If you suscribe to WOXS this month you can choose between a kit and a selection of Madeira threads, needles, scissors etc!

Sorry to tempt you!!!!

I bought cross stitcher last month, and I thought it was becoming more of a general needlework mag too.

i get New Stitches on sub as well so I don't mind a bit of variation - I've done a bit of blackwork and I'd love to try hardanger. But I did get Crossstitcher to have a cross stitch one!

I don't think I got a sub gift from it anyway!! I get a sub because I don't get into town that often and its easier.

Baaaaaad girl! Can't afford both. :( Can't even afford the one, actually!

Yeah. Might as well buy New Stitches. It's a much better general stitchery mag, anyway. My local newsagent gets it in for me. I can't afford it, but hey...

Well, here is a lone voice. I bought it Today and rather like it. I like the Christmas ornaments and cards and appreciate the info on finishing them. I also like the stocking and banner.
I found the articles quite interesting and overall would buy it again.
I did however dislike the new reader letters page as there seemed to be not much there. Maybe no-one wrote in?

This was never my fave magazine but I got a subscription on Saturday. Luckily it's only for three months and then I will cancel it. I am not thrilled because it seems to have too much general sewing/projects rather than being all cross stitch. Some of the Christmas designs are good but other than that....
