How do you attach the button to the biscornu?
I get the bit about going through from one buttinto the other, but how do you anker it when you finish so the biscornu stays with an ident and does't spring back.
Sorry if this sounds a stupid question, but nearly finished my first biscornu and was wondering how this worked.
Another question on some sites (not all) it says to attach a small scrap of material on the inside under where the button goes, is this necessary?
I have only to stuff mine so not a big opening left.
Thanks for all your help

Re: Buttons on Biscornu
maggs, I've not used the extra bit of fabric and haven't found it a problem.
I've used two methods for making the dimple/attaching the button:
1) double a length of thread and thread it into your needle as though doing a loop start. Take the needle through the middle of the biscornu, out the other side, back again and catch the loop, pull and go through a few more times to make it secure, then fasten of as you normally would in sewing, by catching either your stitched thread or a little of the fabric, then catching the loop as you pull through to make a knot (hope this makes sense). Then attach the buttons as you would normally. I've used this where the button was small or fragile, so it didn't have all the strain on it.
2) thread needle as for a loop start again, come up through one hole and down another hole of your first button catching the loop, anchoring the thread to the button. Take through the biscornu, catching the other button on the other side, take it through a few times to fasten the buttons on securely (pulling tight to create the dimple, then come out of the biscornu on the bottom side but don't come through the button, wind the thread around the "shaft" of the button a few times (if it hasn't got a haft but has 2 or 4 holes, wind it around your stitching that attaches the buton to the biscornu) then fasten off by taking the needle through your tightly wound threads or catching a little of the fabric, and making a knot as before.

Re: Buttons on Biscornu
Definitely, I'm not at that point in my biscornu yet, but I was planning how to try attaching the button, and your way definitely seems safe and somewhat simple. Thanks Mabel!Serinde wrote:As usual, Mabel explains excellently.
Re: Buttons on Biscornu
What I did when I was struggling to get the needle to go through the fabric and to tightened off the thread to make the dimple, I changed the way I did the button on my next biscornu. I stitched on the button before stuffing the biscornu. Once I had the button secured and then stuffed the biscornu, I took a strong thread and stitched near the button on both top and bottom, pulled it firm until the dimple showed, then after a couple more up and down, I secured the thread. That way, I wasn't fighting to get the thread through the button on both sides to make the dimple and the buttons were already secured. This works great for me when the buttons are really difficult to secured, especially the special design button like cat, snowman, snowflakes, animals buttons, charms , etc...
