kimkat_tkl 2011 stitching thread

Post by kimkat_tkl »

Okay so my first stitching thread was getting quite long so I thought I would start a new one for this year. Also as a couple of the projects are 'one section at a time' pieces it will make finding the thread easier as each month/second month comes around.

Firstly one last finish for 2010. The plan was try and have this finished before the end of the year and after a long day doing half stitches (just under 2,700 in a day!) I managed it with just over 27 hours to spare:

So then I had a day of stitching to fill before I started my new project on New Years Day. Luckily for me I happened to be at my parents and my mum decided to put together the frames we had ordered for 5 of my finished pieces. So I left with the foamcore to lace the pieces onto and I got 4 out of the 5 finished. I ran into a problem with the 5th - the fabric wasn't wide enough to wrap over the edges of the foamcore so I will have to add a few extra strips on to it before I can frame it. My mum has yet to cut the mats but below are the pieces laced and with the frames they will be in.

Hibiscus and Frangis - thinking of just a yellow mat for both of these
ImageImage

Fractals - this will just be a white mat (and I'm trying to convince Mum that it needs to go between each design)
Image
Image

Snow Family QS and Vermillion Snowpeople - both will have a larger blue outside mat with a small shiny silver inside mat (near the stitching)
ImageImageImage

Progress after one full day of stitching on Curl Up With A Good Book QS (2011 HAED Freebie SAL - one page of chart released every two months), 1,277 stitches :D :

The other project that I will be doing this year is the Chatelaine Mystery 14, which has a Swan Lake theme. As I love ballet (dancing it and watching it) I thought that I would enjoy this. I'm classing it as my Christmas present (although I bought it before Christmas, the money I got as Christmas presents just about covers what I spent). I'm having real trouble with Yahoo Groups at my parent's place :x trying to get the first part of the chart (looks like another sneaky trip into work tomorrow, went in on New Years Day to print the chart for the QS) but below is a pic of the fabric and some of the specialty threads (lots of silks) and beads that are required

Wow, great work! I like your idea with the fractals, the white borders will really bring those bright colours out. :applesauce:

I'm curious about the HAED freebie SAL, do you need to be a member to join?

I'm surprised Rose hasn't borrowed those snowmen!

What fabulous stitching Tracy and love the frames and they are all in, it will be great with the matts you have described too. The fractals are so lovely and bright as well and the Snow Family are gorgeous. You are amazing doing that outback scene too, my DIL had her eye on that chart but I managed to steer her to the Mountain Range one, too much foreground confetti in your one.

Love the sound of your Swan Lake one too, the threads and beads are a lovely combination of colours.

Very well done.

Great work kimkat to finish that big piece before the year was out!! That must have been one mammoth stitching session! :applesauce: :applesauce:

I was interested to see you are about to start the new Chatelaine project. I have also signed up for one of hers, the Christmas 2011 Mystery. I shall enjoy watching your one coming on!

Hi - you have to join the HAED bulletin board and then they have sign ups in December for the next year's freebie SAL. Unfortunatly, it's too late to join in the one for 2011... :(

Such pretty designs. I absolutely love the flowers, your choice of fabric and framing really brought out the stitching. Are Hibiscus and Frangis the designers of the two flower pieces? Or are they the titles? I would love to do them.

Frangis and Hibiscus are the names of the designs, the company is called Hannes Needlecraft.
