Wedding Photo

Post by mlewis »

I have had my favourite wedding photo converted into a chart by skitzzzzz and will keep you updated on my progess here.

I am still doing my horse piece and intend to finish it but think i will be using it as a place to practice techniques alongside the wedding photo project.
Last night i gridded it with pencil and re-started it in the upper left corner. I can really see the advantage of this now as before i started in the middle and stitched whichever colour i fancied that day.

I have blown each page of the photo pattern upto A3 size so it doesn't hurt my head.
I ordered all my thread and my 16ct aida last night, along with an embroidery box to keep my threads organised.
Will have to nip to hobbycraft at some point to pick up a fabric marker so i can grid my aida before i start.

I'm not sure how long delivery will take but it is likely i will be making a proper start on the photo next weekend once my fabric and threads are prepared.
In the meantime i will continue to practice loop starts and maybe even parking on my horse picture.

Will update once i actually start!

My box, thread and aida have arrived! :D

I picked up a snap frame and a blue fabric pen (i have already checked and it washes out fine!) last night so i'm ready to go.

I am at work at the moment and have to go food shopping on the way home so can't start yet :(
I have sealed the edges of my aida with masking tape so it doesn't fray and have ticked off all my threads from the list to make sure they are all they.

Tonight i am going to grid and wind all my thread onto bobbins to store in my new box. I may start sewing tonight unless i'm tired but i do have a whole free weekend so if i can't start tonight, it will be tomorrow morning.

I'm excited and scared at the same time

Way to go. :mexicanwave:
The only advice i can give is double check everything before you stitch. I usualy spend about half a day studying the chart and threads before i even start stitching.
Well to be honest, ive had my Dragon chart for almost a week now and im still reading it.

Cant wait to see this one grow. :applesauce:

Day one done!

I wound all my thread onto bobbins last night and gridded my fabric as well as doing an hour or so stitching last night.
All of this took me from 8pm until 2am!

I have carried on with the stitiching today. As there are so many colour changes, i have decided to work in areas of 20x20 stitches and do one colour at a time until the square is complete then move on. I have gone outside the square if the colour extends further.

I have done around 5 hours on it today and it is slow going, there is a lot of confetti but you can already see the tree taking shape if you compare it to the photo.
I want to try and finish off the square i have started tonight.

Here is the original photo:

This is my material gridded up and a start made - i will do the rest as i complete each 1/4

Here is a close up of what i have done so far - not much!

It is slow at the moment so 'i'm hoping it will speed up a bit!

I'm pleased with my start too, this is only my second project and i'm only about 1/6 through the first one!

It should be 160x224 stitches on 16ct aida which is about 10x14 inches so not huge, i really haven't done much.

Just need to work on keeping the back a bit neater, it is a state!

That is going to be a great size and look so very nice when it's done!! As for the back, I hope you have good luck with trying to keep it neat, with all that confetti, it's going to be rough going, but just remember, no one else is going to see the back of it, so as long as the front looks good, you will be very well pleased!!

i'm not too worried as long as the back doesn't affect the front. I've already cut a couple of stitiches short on the back and i've had a couple of long ends poke through a new stitich but i'm battling on!

You might be able to tell from my wedding theme that green is my favourite colour so i'm hoping i don't get fed up of the 23 different shades of it in this project!
