Crocheted Rugs
A little late adding to this tread, but I enjoy crochet and have for many years. Oh the number of afgans that have been given as gifts! Has anyone done crocheted rugs. I thought I would make some for the bathroom. So tired of the rubber backing coming off of the store bought ones. Had to replace a washer pump because of it!

Re: Crocheted Rugs
I have often thought of this samething but never got around to the actual project. I am sure a google search should come up with something.

Sounds like a good idea -- what material/yarn would you use
?

Re: Crocheted Rugs
I saw some recycling project where they used old T-shirts / plastic bags cut up into stripes and crocheted into rugs. I don't think I would like the plastic bags under my feet, but the t-shirt version might be good

Re: Crocheted Rugs
The only thing I was wondering about was how slippy the rug would be on the floor? I guess it would need some kind of backing?
If it's possible to do though, would be so great as think how much you could personalise them.

Re: Crocheted Rugs
my mother used to make hooked rugs, using a very large crochet hook. It appeared very similar to a braided mat. If you like I can get a picture of one for you
Re: Crocheted Rugs
Thanks for all the ideas everyone. I did a little more research and found lots of info on rag, crocheted and braided rugs. There is a paint on rubberizing material to prevent slipping, need to do more research on it yet. Hershners sells a braiding kit that really looks good. There is a video turtorial also. I was thinking of using a fleece material, would feel cozy on the footies
We live in a log home and the style would be perfect!

The log home sounds perfect to me! What a wonderful place to live.
Hope you get the perfect rug to compliment it.

Oooo, log home sounds wonderful! I haven't started crochet just yet, but am collecting magazines at the moment. In two of the issues they have two rugs, but they are just as is, no backing. Though I do think it may be needed for bathroom mats.
Best of luck with the research and enjoy once you start!!
