Lauren's First SAL! *Bad News Update*

Post by purvislets »

Hey everyone! So, this new project is going to be one full of firsts for me. It's my very first Stitch-A-Long, the first time I'm not working from a kit, and the first time I'm trying out gridding. So far, I'm liking it all!
Here is the picture that I'm working from:
Image

My husband is a big Starcraft fan and really enjoys this particular player's podcast. I'll actually be doing this project twice: once for the hubby and one to send to Day [9].
I had a chart made out of just the main logo:
Image
and will be backstitching the small white and yellow words on my own.

Started the project last night (Feb 3, 2011) and here's what I got done so far:
Image
The gridding is difficult to get used to at first, but I'm liking it so far. The black stitching on black Aida is expecially tough  I usually will stich one whole color until it's completed before moving on to the next, so jumping from color to color is a bit of a challenge as well. I like the way it is looking though so I'm gonna stick with it. I mananged to get the first 10x10 completed in the time I had yesterday.
Here's to hoping this is a quick project!

That should be a really easy one to follow I would think not to many colors :thinks: but still enough to keep it interesting!!!!! Good start!!!!!! :applesauce:

What size will the finished piece be??????

It's 160 stitches x 42 stitches on 14 count aida. The finished size should be somewhere around 12"x3".

There are a total of 39 colors, which compared to some of the projects I've seen lately seems paltry!

It's always interesting to watch something totally different being stitched. :D
Are you going to chart the small backstitched letters on graph paper or something, or just totally freehand them?

I'll probably use graph paper to at least get the sizing/spacing right. If that doesn't work out then I'll just freehand them. I'm worried that I may have to move up the very small letters at the bottom of the original picture so they don't get cut off during the framing. Looking at the amount of fabric I have, I can see that I don't have a whole lot of room to work with.

Great start, I admire you for stitching something so large twice. My ADD would kick in and I would get bored LOL

I have never stitched on black fabric but have heard putting the light under the project instead of above helps?? You may already be doing this and if so sorry for the redundancy!

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to give that a try when I do some more stitching this afternoon.

And as for doing them both... I'll probably finish this one, work on something else for a while, then start the 2nd one. :D I don't know if I'll be able to do them both back to back!

So, here's today's progress:

Pretty happy with it so far. The yellow is really fun to stitch after all the dark blues and browns. The black is still a pain
