Sad Day

Post by Rose »

Today was a very sad day for us our 16 year old cat had to be put to sleep. He has been with us since he and his brother and sister were born. It was Mother's Day eve 1995. I got up and looked for him to serve his breakfast and he was not in his normal spot so looked around and then feed the other animals and got dressed. I was getting ready to go look for him again when I heard him in the garage. I went out to let him in and found him lying on the floor crying. I grab a blanket and the phone and called the vet and told them to expect me as soon as I could get to them. I was really not sure that he was going to make it. He was cold and all he could do is cry and then he would just ly silent on the blanket. He did make it to the doctor but they could not do anything for him. He had a small mast in his stomach/intestine area and they said they could do some test and blood work but his BP was so low they would never be able to operate and at his age it would probably kill him anyway. It was such a shock as he had showen no signs of trouble at all previous to this. He had lost a bit of weight but nothing drastic and he was continuing to eat and drink as normal. He had slowed down some but at his age you expect that. So the doctor and I decide the best thing was to let him go. She cried with me as she has taken care of him since he was baby. Then I brought him back home and buried him on the hill that he has run for the last 16 years.

Really really going to miss him.

Oh Rose you poor thing, I am so sorry. I had to have my elderly dog put to sleep just before Christmas so I know just how you feel. All I can say is cherish your memories of your beloved pet and be glad that you gave him such a kind loving home, and know that you did your very best for him.

:( :( sorry for your loss. Pets really do become part of the family and it's painful when they pass away. We had a staffie that lived till he 15. I was sad at losing him but it was also sad as another link to my childhood had passed away too.

Dear Rose, so sorry to read about your beloved friend having to leave you but it was obviously his time to go. It is even harder when you have reared them from kittens.

My dear old Silver was 19 when I had to make the last trip to the vet. My DD and I sat up with his mum and had to help her birth him, he was so big and she so small. His mum Muffin, lived until she was 16.

As others have said, cherish the memories, you can visit his resting place and talk to him, :rose: if that helps and above all know that he had a wonderful home and great life for all his years.
