Needle organization/sorting

Does anyone have a brilliant way to sort/figure out what kind of needles and sizes etc you have. I have so many varied ones from kits and mysterious origins that I have decided to seek out a way to a) figure out what it is i have and b) how to store them in a manner where a) will be easily remembered.

any ideas /hints/stunning insights for me? thanks in advance!

I do I do...hang on let me load the pic again cause I can't remember where I posted it....








I'll have to go did them out to see the name of them....I will do this in a little while....
what I do is i put them in the box and then cut off the top of the needle cardboard that says what size they are....

But what if they were just a random needle in a kit or "found" type deal (im trying to determine what I have)

The box is brilliant size though and once i find em all and figure out what they are I can make a label....perhaps with a small magnet under each to keep the needles from jumbling? *ponder*

I have three of these

each of which holds some of my needles; size 18, 20, 22, 24 and 26 are in one, size 28 and sharps are in one, beading needles and safety pins are in one. Once I had a couple of each size that I definitely knew for sure were that particular size I could easily match others (from kits and such) by sight, they organise really well this way and it means I can always get the needle I need really quickly

ooh I like those and they are cheap (which is always a bonus with my broke little self)

ya know the forum is getting more and more dangerous for me....first was the stitch and stash addiction...then came the checking the forum and chat .....and now I'm eyeballing all the accessory items for stitching I had somehow managed to totally ignore the existence of until recently. ah I will have to start a "wish list" of goodies and figure out a better storage solution *grin*...

back to eyeballing the pretty's, and the shiny's, and the usefuls

Yes, really, when you sign up for this forum, they should send out a little disclaimer form that has a warning about the increase in your stitchy spending.. there is a lot to ooohh and ahhh about. My wish list has greatly increased in the time I have been here, as has my once paltry stash supply. (currently on the search for a wooden storage box someone bought on ebay in the UK)

I made myself a needlebook. I really only use size 24 and 28 needles.. which I can tell apart by feeling them. I have 4 pages to my book. Wrote on the bottom corner 24 and 28. The other two pages are for the miscellaneous needles I have no idea what size they are .. beading, big ones for pearle cottons, kit leftovers.

I have seen an image somewhere that has the different needle sizes. Not only are they different diameters but different lengths as well. So as long as you don't distort the image when printing you can figure out what you have. I'll post if I can find it.

I totally agree. Since joining this forum I have had (had!) to buy boxes to hold all my threads - separate ones for DMC and Anchor, of course - more bobbins than I could possibly count, needles in all different sizes, these needle cases, thread sorters, magnets to keep track of my needles while I'm stitching, several pin cushions, sewing boxes, needle books, lots and lots of books, lots of kits, seven lever arch files and literally thousands of plastic wallets to hold all my charts...and it's all other people's fault!

Wonders if I blame you guys like kutekitty...if that will get me off the hook with my hubby's budget? LOL I kid I kid my hubby is great he doesn't care what I get as long as I use it...speaking of ...back to stitching I go!!

You are all so much more organized than I am. If it fits through the holes in the aida with a lot of ease, and it's plated with gold, it's good enough for me. lol

KuteKitty - huh i wonder if the "its all other people's fault" thing will work......right now my "stash" is a "stash" cause it gets "stashed outta sight"

the books, kits, and hopefully patterns are my worst downfall.

I collect wooden needlecases so I keep different sizes in different cases.
