My first SAL-finished!! 19/06/11-

Post by nachosmiley »

Hi all,

I've only been a member of this forum for a short while and I have well and truly caught the stitchy bug....thanks!!

I had only ever completed small items before (unfortunately no pics as they were given as gifts), but then about 2 yrs ago I found a dragon kit I liked. It was a first for me, larger kit, blending filaments and black aida and I have found it quite frustrating but I have worked on it on and off. After stumbling upon this forum by chance I have been given the motivation to get out my UFO and now I have finally finished the cross-stitching!

Image

I have started the backstitching but again this is a first for me!!

Anyhoo I was asked what I wanted for my upcoming birthday and me being always up for a challenge have decided to try out a Mirabilia on linen! I finally received all my lovely goodies in the post a few days ago and I couldn't wait for my birthday, so I have started it now!

So I have chosen the stargazer and this is what she is supposed to look like.

Image

And this is what I have so far..

Sorry for the massive pictures, Im unsure how to make them smaller, could anyone give me a hint how to do that?

The dragons fabulous! Well done on completing it on black! :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce: And the Mirabilia is going to be stunning, too, great start.

As for the pictures, I put my photos on Photobucket, and I find that it depends on their size there how they appear here on the screen. So if I want one smaller I reduce the size on Photobucket.

But I don't think it is a huge problem if they are big.

Very cool work on the dragon! And great start on Stargazer, she's so pretty! :applesauce:

I don't think your pictures are too big, that helps us see your great stitching. I use Picasa to store my photos and just post the img link.

Awww thanks everyone for your lovely encouragement :D

I wish my camera would pick up the sparkle on the dragon, he has blending filament all over...he was a real pain to stitch but definately worth it!!

My stargazer is being stitched on a hand-dyed 28ct opalescent cashel linen from polstitches, again the sparkles in the fabric really don't show up too well on the photos, but then again these were taken on my phone....maybe I will get the proper camera out next time. This is my first attempt at using linen, and I have to say it's not too bad once I got going....also I have never attempted beading before so I will probably be picking someones brains about that when I get to it!

Unfortunately I'm not going to have much time to spend on these for at least a month as I have an exam on the 3rd of May and have a lot of revision to get through, and an assignment to get handed in by the 12th of May

And I just found my stitchy bug again

I was thinking  that I may make one evening a week my stitchy evening.....hmmmm sounds like a plan to me!!

Post by nachosmiley »

Well considering I said I wouldn't work on this I have kind of done a bit of stitching

Image

But I have been good and I have set myself daily milestones for my revision, that way I can do my revision and when I have reached my target for the day I can then get my stitching out!!

Of course it helps that I'm off work for the easter break atm too :)

It's nice to see progress photos I've never taken them before, it really gives you a boost when you see what you've acheived
