Dragon Riders HAED page 11-12 (first two rows)

Post by megan_bright »

So this is my first HAED and by far the largest project I've ever attempted to do...I'm kind of terrified haha. After searching to find aida that was large enough to cover it without the count being too tiny to see, I finally found some 18 count Aida to use for this project. I'm just now counting out everything and trying to mark off so I know where to start! Wish me luck! I'll post pictures once I get it started. I have finals coming up soon, but after that I should get to start on this and actually make some progress.

This is what it will look like when it's finished:

Alright, well I've started a bit on it! Still a long way to go, and kind of having some issues because the fabric is JUST big enough for the pattern...and I am trying to figure a way to stop it from fraying...but here's what I've got so far

Wow, I LOVE this one!! I love dragons but do not have the patience for a HAED, they are just too large for me! Will really enjoy your progress instead!

This is going to be fantastic. It reminds me so much of the Anne McCaffrey, Dragons of Pern books, which I love. Great start. :applesauce:

Yes it is very Dragons of Pern isn't it! Great start, hope the finals are over soon so you can really get your teeth into it!

Re the fraying - there are several ways, best is to run a zig zag stitch along the edges with a sewing machine, if you don't have one, then you can use masking tape but I suspect this will mark it for a project that will take this long, and finally you can get a glue like substance that will stop it fraying - called fray check.

No idea how good it is, but worth a shot?

I've tried Fray Check, it works very well. It really stops the fraying of the edges entirely.

Great start Megan!

Thanks everyone! I think I'm actually going to have to start over, though...my fabric turned out to be cut unevenly at the top from when I bought it and so there's not going to be enough room to frame it if I continue on with this piece of fabric...so now I have to order more :(

Oh my, this one is going to be a challenge! What a shame about the fabric :-( but how fortunate that you realised fairly early on!
Do contact the people who sold it to you, as they should really make sure you receive what you ordered and they may well want to rectify it for you as sign of good customer service.
